Ongoing yearly items

After using the Family rooms for a couple of years the bed linen was
starting to look a little tired and worn. Amazing Grace therefore replaced
all the bed linen in both rooms.

Every Christmas Day Amazing Grace ask a very special
person to make a very special visit to SCBU.
Even though he is very tired after his night's work,
Santa is always happy to help.
Amazing Grace finance, not only presents for
the babies and parents, but also all the older siblings and staff too.

To enable the staff in SCBU to use
the digital camera (see One Off Items)
to its best advantage, Amazing Grace have agreed
to finance an on-going supply of glossy photo paper
and ink for the units printers

After agreeing to provide small blankets and hats for
the pre 24 week babies, who sadly do not survive, Amazing Grace
has bought a large selection of wool in appropriate colours.
Each set will only be used once and will then be given
to the parents as a keepsake if they want them.
The time a family spends with their baby is very precious.
Once wrapped in the blankets and with their hats on families
can take those extremely precious photos to remember their little ones.
After initially agreeing to provide this service for the tiny pre 24 weeks babies
we have now extended this to include all babies who are born 'asleep'.

To help parents and siblings to celebrate the 'normal' family events
Amazing Grace finance cards and presents for Mother's day, Father's day,
Birthdays, Christmas, Easter and to celebrate baby's 100th day in SCBU.

Amazing Grace has been working with the Bereavement Councillors
within the hospital and have agreed to provide a supply of
cards for them to give to families who lose a baby.

One off items
Amazing Grace have purchased and donated
a range of baby positioning equipment for

University Hospital Walsgrave AND George Elliott SCBUs
These help to keep the tiny babies in a suitable
position while their hips and other joints continue to
develop after their early arrival to the world.

When Amazing Grace discovered that all
drinks have to be paid for they set to and bought a
large supply of tea, coffee and hot chocolate so the staff
can have a drink as and when they need one.

Amazing Grace have provided SCBU with
bottle warmers to help at those very busy feeding times

Amazing Grace have financed a water feature in the
memorial chapel. This also incorporates a memorial stone feature
where parents and family can have a stone inscribed with
their child's name as a last memorial.

Amazing Grace has furnished a set of rooms
where bereaved parents can stay for a few days
before having to face the outside world again

When Amazing Grace learnt that all SCBU's
baby clothes were crammed into units and kept falling out
we immediatley financed sets of drawers so they can now
be stored and accessed without damaging them.

Amazing Grace have furnished 2 breast feeding rooms
so Mums have a pleasant place to feed their babies.
We have equiped these rooms with comfortable chairs,
shelving units, a clock, hi fi, coffee table and magazine rack for Mum
and play tables and toys for older siblings.
These rooms are quite small so are difficult to photograph all the items.

Amazing Grace has furnished a councelling room.
This is somewhere for parents to meet with doctors
about 6 weeks after the loss of their baby, in order to discuss the
results of tests to try to find out what happened.

Amazing Grace have provided a top of the range digital camera
with memory card which connects direct to a printer.
In this way staff can take photos of the tiny babies for parents
to keep. This is also invaluable to Mums who cant visit SCBU after
having a caesarian

Amazing Grace has provided 2 moses baskets to SCBU.

Amazing Grace has furnished 2 parents rooms. These are 'half-way-houses'
to give new parents the opportunity to gain confidence in caring for their
tiny baby while still having the reassurance of having hospital staff on-hand if needed.
Between the 2 rooms there is a kitchenette which Amazing Grace has fitted out
with items to enable the parents to make simple meals and hot drinks.

Although the furniture are one-off items,
Amazing Grace is renewing the linen as and when needed.

In order to help older siblings to pass the time while waiting in SCBU
Amazing Grace has provided TVs, DVD players and a range of DVDs for them to watch.
To ensure that all the DVDs are kept in pristine condition, Amazing grace also
provided a storage unit to keep them all in.

After consultations with the Bereavement Counsellors, Amazing Grace
helped them to set up a bank account to finance the items they need
in their valuable work.

Amazing Grace made a donation to Samuel Boxes in order to help them
to continue their valuable work in organising memory boxes for the
families of the babies who sadly do not survive.

A wonderful gentleman called, Mick Mills, provides every family whose
baby is 'born asleep' with a beautiful hand written certificate. This is
particularly important as these babies do not get a birth certificate.
Mick finances these himself. When Amazing Grace heard about this and saw
the certificates Mick makes we decided to acknowledge his wonderful work by
presenting him with an Amazing Grace certificate and also help his work
by donating a voucher for Staples where he gets all the materials from.
