At the beginning of the year, Andy and John decided that they would have absolutely nothing to do with the new house phone (apart from leaving themselves drunken messages every night they went out!) True to their words they stuck to it. Anyway, Brian was partial to the odd call to Limerick (£14.25/minute), King Villas to his dad (with OBE), so that’ll be £25/minute and Matt to…presumably Greece if what was to follow is anything to go by. It was March and a BT envelope was sat there, on the doormat with a big grin on its face. Later that day, the boys returned from the library, entered the living room to find Matt, Villas and Brian sat there in complete silence with the phone bill in front of them. You could have cut the tension with one of Matt’s gloves. The damage? £98.00!!!! The mother of all bills had arrived!! Just imagine the squabbling and bickering that followed that nugget!
