Every Saturday night the boys would each order a pizza of there choice and a bottle of coke, and take it in turns each week to run downstairs and collect it. However, there was an intercom speaker on the door to let people in such as guests that didn’t have an access card, which could be operated from a phone in each corridor.
Anyway, this Saturday night was John’s turn to collect the pizzas, so down in the lift he went, ‘bing’, across to the door, opens the door where this guy’s waiting with our tea and reaches for into his pocket for the money. Next thing, the speaker on the wall crackles as someone somewhere in Wearmouth lifts a handset and shouts “Hello (Elllllaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr) I want my pizza now, bring me my pizza” then makes a loud munching & chomping sound down the phone! Johnnie!! This guy looked gob smacked, as did the group of people on their way to Wearmouth Bar for a sesh…….Johnnie!
