Pudsey & District Ring Craft Club Golden Oldies Supermatch
On Saturday evening we attended the Pudsey & District Ring Craft Club Golden Oldies Supermatch sponsored by Eukanuba and Our Dog’s. Triglyph Gemini Witch had qualified to represent the Anglian Boxer Club who kindly paid for our tickets.
In the hall the tables allocated to the various Canine Societies were arranged around a large ring covered in non-slip matting. Each qualifier received a large rosette and a catalogue. The evening started with a substantial buffet.
The Judge for the evening was Nathalie Tytgat from Belgium. There were 28 dogs of 25 different breeds entered and all received applause from every club when introduced into the ring. The dogs were first drawn in pairs and ‘gone over’ by the Judge but the winners were not announced.
Whilst the steward checked which dogs were required for the next round a huge raffle was drawn then every entrant paraded into the ring to collect a 3kg bag of Eukanuba and an Our Dogs goody bag containing, among other things, an Our Dogs Annual and a Diary. There was some 'breed specific Eukanuba' on offer so Gem also got a 2.5kg bag of Boxer food.
The winners of the pairs, including Gem, were then called back into the ring, doing a lap of honour before lining up along the sides. After moving the dogs again the Judge shortlisted four. The English Bull Terrier, Boxer, Basset Fauve de Bretagne, and the Afghan. After moving the dogs again the Judge announced the winner to be the Bull Terrier, with Gem as runner up. For this we received another 15kg of Eukanuba, 3months subscription to the paper and a crystal trophy to keep, donated in memory of the late Bernard Childs.
It was a lovely end to a wonderful evening.
Those unsuccessful in the first round were then called back into the ring and the winner of this, a Golden Retriever, also received a crystal trophy.
The Pudsey Ring Craft Club are holding a Royal Canine Superpup Match in September, this time with a Swedish judge. If a good night out isn’t enough to encourage you to support your local Canine Society matches perhaps the goodies on offer will. The Anglian Boxer Club has a super LARGE venue with private car parking so why not come along and try to qualify your dog for the next Pudsey & District Ring Craft Club Supermatch.
