The maths department at Arden School is located entirely on the 2nd floor of the main building. It uses six specialist maths rooms, one of which includes around 20 computers to help with learning. The maths department is also linked closely with the IT department and Learning Support. When lower school have maths, they usually have it at the same time, so the IT rooms are also used. Learning Support help out a great deal with Maths, they tech the students who find it difficult to keep up with the rest. By setting everyone, it is easier for students to keep up with the rest of the class. There are about 9 sets for maths in each year, however this may vary according to the size of it. GCSE maths at Arden offers a mathematics course where at least 80% pass it. SATs results last year were 95% of pupils gaining a level 5 and 57% achieving level 7. Most of the top maths group achieved level 8. Maths isn't always sums, we often draw graphs, learn useful mathematics skills, carry out investigations and take part in challenges. In the maths challenge, 2002, 19 juniors gained gold and 20 seniors gained gold.
