Background:

Looking from the outside in Chelsea's life seems perfect, unfortunately it's all smoke and mirrors. "NEVER FORGET" that was the Van Der Kampp motto. Chelsea did not seem to fit that mold. It all began when Chelsea's parents went to a highly respected divinationist during their second pregnancy. The Van Der Kampp's were told some many wonderful things concerning their current and future prodigy, until the very end. "Be wary of your last TWO children," added the middle-aged woman as she looked up from the last two tarot cards and into her clients' eyes, "They will bring surprise, shame and pride unto ye." The woman began to gather her cards together, but she appeared to be pondering something. Darcey pleaded to know more, until the woman solemnly added, "These last two YOUR last two will be SQUIBS."

Chelsea's father took the news rather well, Darcey almost miscarried Carl. After a lengthy period of bed-rest for the rest of the pregnancy Darcey seemed fine. The Van Der Kampp family enjoyed immensely the birth of their first four children, than they began to plan for the last two. They even made a pact never to tell the children until it became absolutely necessary. Darcey's fifth pregnancy proved harder than normal and on top of a difficult labor and delivery she suffered through PPD afterwards. The physical and psychological toll Darcey survived made her vow never to have another child.

Strange what a large gathering and many hours of celebration do for the Van Der Kampp's. Darcey discovered her pregnancy four weeks later. Charles seemed to help his wife cope during this strenuous time. This pregnancy did go better than the last, particularly since Darcey stayed constantly busy preparing for the baby's arrival.

Chelsea's father doted over her, but her mother formed a closer-knit bond to her youngest child. Cynthia and Chelsea grew up looking forward to the time when their Hogwart's letter would arrive. Fortunately Cynthia's determination and her flare for drama helped her survive this troubling time. Chelsea found it hard to understand this time period as her father and brothers tried to explain to her how the fundamentals of magic would not work for her. When she quite obviously could work magic, at least every time she snuck out and practiced on her older brothers brooms.

When Chelsea's Hogwart's letter arrived her mother, Darcey kept it hidden till Cynthia shipped out to her muggle performing arts academy. Darcey sent Chelsea and Colin out to run some errands. A giant row broke out, fortunately the neighbors were out of earshot. Unfortunately the kids returned to the house before the argument ended. Darcey completely oblivious prepared the children for a shopping trip to Diagon Alley, while Charles kept shaking an angry finger at Chelsea. Utterly confused and a little frightened Chelsea gladly accepted her mother's loving attention.

At Diagon Alley everything went well until they arrived at Olivander's Wand shop. Mr. Olivander insisted that Chelsea would join the Van Der Kampp line of birch wands. Chelsea's mother finally put her foot down after an hour of wand searching. Surprisingly after that tense moment Chelsea found her wand very quickly. Colin began treating his sister differently after that day.

On the day Chelsea departed for Hogwarts her mother presented her with her first familiar, one of a rare spotted breed of short-haired cat, almost leopard-like. Chelsea loved Pickles, but she came to her father with an unusual request. Chelsea wanted Pickles to be a different color. Her father obliged her, but with a wistful look as he transformed the cat from silver to bright yellow with black spots.

During the Sorting Ceremony at Hogwarts things became more estranged between the two siblings. When Chelsea put on the hat she whispered, "Not Ravenclaw." "OF COURSE NOT RAVENCLAW," the hat shouted. Several students turned their attention to Colin. ALL Van Der Kampp's were sorted to Ravenclaw, even Cynthia for her short time at Hogwarts. Now the Sorting hat muttered some things as Chelsea nervously scanned the room. "Let's see..your clever.very sure of yourself…..Syth.." Chelsea eyes popped wide as her heart nearly exploded as her biggest FEAR surged through her brain NOT SNAKES!!! "Fine," the hat grumbled, as it added in a loud voice, "Hufflepuff"

Chelsea blossomed at Hogwarts, but her relationship with her siblings suffered. Chris and Cyndy chalked it up to weird genetics, but Charlie, Carl and Colin knew the truth. Chelsea somehow did not belong to the Van Der Kampp family. No one talked about what Darcey may have done, but Chelsea's father aged quickly quite suddenly.

This estrangeness let Chelsea explore her magical abilities freely. The Van Der Kampp expectations were dropped. Chelsea happily excelled in her Magical Creatures classes. She even became a Hufflepuff chaser for last two years at Hogwarts, much to her older brother Colin's surprise.

After graduating from Hogwarts Chelsea attended a highly acclaimed Magical Creatures program for four years with a different apprenticeship every summer with a specialist to gain the experience needed to begin her own practice. Chelsea loved traveling around the world to exotic locations for study and research. She greatly desired an appointment at some large Magical Creatures Preserve, but her parents pressured her to stay in England.

She finally relinquished and they helped her set up practice in London, but with a cottage out in the country. Pickles stayed home warm by the hearth, but his son, Avery accompanied Chelsea everywhere. To her family's surprise Avery is a Manchester terrier. Chelsea was going through an anti-feline phase, so she transformed the tiny kitten into a mini-pin puppy. Pickles didn't mind and Avery never realized the change.

Occupation:

Chelsea hates to see any animal, magical or otherwise treated cruelly. Chelsea's phobia concerning serpents has only improved slightly over the last 10 years. She can now control herself most of the time, before an ill rational action.
