BIOGRAPHY: Barry was born at Acomb Maternity Hospital, York, just before it was closed, and all the patients transferred to the new Mmaternity hospital at Fulford. (Since closed.).
BIOGRAPHY: Barry attended Helmsley Church of England Primary School, where he passed his 11+. During this period Barry was a cub scout, at the 1st Helmsley Scout Troop.
BIOGRAPHY: After leaving primary school, Barry went to Lady Lumleys Grammar School, Pickering, where he stayed for 4 years. Whilst therem Barry was a member of the School orchestra, Chess Club, 2nd 11 football team, and his house 5-a-side team.
BIOGRAPHY: Barry was at secondary school for 4 years, and after leaving joined the West Yorkshire Police, Police Cadets No 24 at Wakefield. His first year was spent at the training school, and technical college, where he passed his GCSE English.
BIOGRAPHY: In his second years training, Barry was stationed at, Morley, Wakefield, and training school, similarly, his 3rd year.
BIOGRAPHY: During the Autumn, during all those years, Barry attended outward bound courses at Buckden, N. Yorkshire, carrying out pursuits such as, orienteering, rock climbing, speed walking, and various initiative tests.
BIOGRAPHY: After completing his 3 years as a cadet, Barry went to Police training school at Pannal Ash, Harrogate, to receive basic training as a Police Constable, No. 2688, which lasted 13 weeks. After completing basic training, Barry was stationed at Morley Police Station.
BIOGRAPHY: The main event which Barry was involved in was a terrorist attack on a coach, carrying soldiers and their families, of whom 13 were killed instantly. This event, in 1975, caused severe emotional distress for barry, and eventually in June 1875 he left the Police Force.
BIOGRAPHY: On returning to his parenrs home, Barry began working at a poultry processing factory, at Thirsk, N. Yorks, where he stayed for 2 years before taking voluntary redundancy. Subsequently, Barry went to work for securicor, York, initially, as an armoured van driver. During his time there Barry went on various courses in London, and was promoted various times, eventually being Assistant Branch Manager.
BIOGRAPHY: While working for Securicor, and through work, Barry met Kate, and although the relationship had a slow start, it blossomed into a happy marriage.
BIOGRAPHY: After marrying, barry left securicor, for pastures greener, a major mistake, leaving Barry drifting around in a variety of jobs. During this time Victoria was conceived, and born while Barry was still not working.
BIOGRAPHY: In order to make a new start, Barry, Kate and Victoria left York, for Bridlington, where eventually Barry formed a business partnership in a window cleaning company.
BIOGRAPHY: Unfortunately, in 1989, Barry fell off a ladder, breaking three vertabrae, an accident which, in 1998, was to force Barry to stop working.
