MEDEA MAHDAVI
Iranian Dancer Medea Mahdavi (www.fotwork.org) is coming to Ireland and will give two 3hour workshops in Cork on Saturday, 1.March, and in Wexford on Sunday, 2. March, both from 12-3pm. One of my own teachers - I get a private lesson whenever I am in Berlin and I have learned a lot from her! This woman is a genius when it comes to veil (she does not only double veil but performs a stunningly fluid dance of the 7 veils) and to gypsy dance (originally from romania, she has it in her blood and she will teach you with a lot of fun to "set the pigs free"!!). These are the workshops:
FEEL THE GYPSY (Expression and Combinatios)If you haven’t yet dared to be bold and a little provocative in your dance, now is your chance! Expressions and movements typical for Gypsy (Romany) dance where much is allowed! Extend your dance repertoire – come and play!
BE THE GYPSY (Choreography, Balkan Rhythm)
The music: a captivating mix of oriental and balkan rhythms.
The dance: fun, cheeky, bold and VERY fiery! Forget about modesty! Dance till you drop, till the walls break down and the tables sing! Once, be the gypsy!
DANCE WITH TWO VEILS, Choreography
With dextrous hands, passionate spins and rhythmic combinations we create phantastic images: A fiery choreography with two veils.
Please bring two light half circular veils! (can be borrowed or purchased with pre booking only)
VEIL MAGIC, a dramatic choreography in a rumba rhythm: A little passion, a bit of romance, a big portion of sensuality and playful combinations. For those who want to have fun and joy with a veil!

Please bring at least 5 veils (half circular and rectangular), a hipscarf and needle, thread and scissors!

Every 2nd friday a 2 1/2 hour intermediate - advanced choreography class is held, working through different styles - egyptian modern, folkloric, turkish, turkish romany, indian fusion, spanish fusion - with use of props (zills, veil, canes, sword, tambourine, fans, shamadan, wings of isis).
