BENTLEY WITH ARKSEY  HERITAGE SOCIETY

About our Society

A group of local people founded Bentley with Arksey Heritage Society in 1988, in order to search record and preserve the history and heritage of Bentley and Arksey near Doncaster.

We are a voluntary organisation which is self funded, and we are based in the heritage corner at Bentley Library. We have put on many displays of our own and taken part in many larger exhibitions including the Local history Festival and the Coalfield exhibition at St Georges Church, Doncaster. We have supported the local Bentley Bonanza gala in Bentley Park through our membership of the Bentley Area Community Partnership Group, and have worked with schools in the area to encourage children with Local Studies projects.

We have a small museum of artefacts and photographs, we have also arranged day trips of historical interest for our members and we have had four and five day holidays.

Society items for sale

The Society has also produced a book called ‘A Journey into the Past,’ which contains photographs of earlier times; the book can be bought at one of our meetings for £4.00 each or from the Post Office on the High Street Bentley. Or we can send you a copy for £4 + the cost of postage.

All money from these items goes towards the Society funds.

Society Programme Of Events

The Society meets on the first Friday of the month during the summer months i.e. April until September.  We meet at Bentley Methodist Church Hall, Chapel Street, Bentley, between 7pm and 9pm.  All are welcome to attend meetings and free tea and coffee is provided. We also meet on occasional Saturday afternoons at the same venue.

If you require any further information about meetings or events or to buy any of the items mentioned above please contact us by email or by telephone on the number below.

The Society will be having a stall at this year's Bentley Bonanza on Sunday 28th June 2009 between 1pm and 5pm at Bentley Park and Pavilion.  The theme of this year's Bonanza is 'Past, Present and Future' and the society will be putting on a display about Bentley and Arksey's past in the form of an illustrated timeline.  Copies of the Society's publication will be on sale on the day.
