Welcome to Broomhill Infant School

A school where children come first!

The early years of schooling lay the foundations that individuals will build on for the rest of their lives. At Broomhill Infant school we believe that the best foundations are achieved through building a successful partnership with parents and carers right from the beginning. We welcome you to work with us in providing the very best education for each and every one of our children.

In the early years children acquire lots of new skills, both academic and social. With our support we aim for them to become active, independent learners with an enthusiasm for knowledge that will stay with them as they progress through life.

At Broomhill Infants we have an environment that is conducive to learning. The school grounds include an orchard and a pond where pupils can study nature and participate in conservation work. The school has recently been awarded the bronze Eco Schools standard and we are currently working towards a silver award. Inside the school, displays of children’s work are used to create a vibrant and stimulating environment that both stimulates and inspires young learners.

The staff at Broomhill Infants recognise and value the contribution that they can make to individual children’s development. The school is committed to providing opportunities for all staff to develop professionally. This ensures that they are ready to take on new educational challenges and provide an education that responds to the ever changing needs of a child growing up in the 21st century. Every pupil, from Nursery to Year 2, is encouraged to achieve to the best of their potential and success, however small, is celebrated.

As I mentioned in an earlier paragraph, we value our partnership with you highly, as we recognise that for a child to succeed in any area, both home and school must be working in close collaboration. During the school year there are termly opportunities for you to meet with the class teacher to discuss your child’s progress and reports are written annually. Parents and carers are also warmly welcomed into school on a regular basis for class assemblies, celebrations and performances.

Assistance in the classroom is always appreciated. A Parents’ Working Party meets weekly and provides invaluable help to staff by making resources to be used in the classroom. The parent governors hold forums where parents or carers can ask questions or find out more information about the school.

We aim to provide a rich and broad curriculum for our children. Our community links are an important part of this balanced, educational provision. Children regularly have opportunities to visit the local shops or library and we warmly welcome visitors, such as the community policeman, into school to share their experiences with the children. The school frequently hosts theatre groups, musicians and entertainers from a wide range of different cultures to promote different aspects of topic work.

I hope you find this website useful and informative. If, after visiting it, you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact the school. Visits by prospective parents or cares are warmly welcomed. Please contact the school office to arrange an appointment.

I look forward to meeting you and trust that your child’s time at Broomhill Infants will be enjoyable and rewarding.
