What we did in February 2005...

All About Canada

This month we woerked towards our All About Canada Interest Badge. It is a Badge that our Canadian Pen Pals work towards. We have painted Maple Leafs, looked at their Coins and made collages about Canada. Our Collages were mainly about British Columbia where our Pen Pals live.

Cookie

Cookie is the mascot from our Canadian Pen Pals. She has come over to visit for Thinking Day. We hope she will have lots of fun with us.

Cookie has been having lots of fun. She spent half term with Brown Owl. For Thinking Day she visited Oaklands School, where members from different units wore their uniforms to school. She also visited the 17th Welwyn Garden City Rainbows for their meeting. Also this week she met the Brownies from 4th Welwyn Garden City when she joined in their Thinking Day meeting and she also visited the District Celebrations at the end of the week.

Thinking Day

World Thinking Day is February 22nd. It is when Girl Guides and Girl Scouts everywhere remember each other. It was first celebrated in 1927, and the date was chosen because it is the joint Birthday of our Founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, World Chief Scout (1857), and his Wife Lady Olave Baden-Powell, World Chief Guide (1889).

This year we had a week of celebrations for Thinking Day. On February 22nd some Brownies wore their uniforms to school. Then we had a Pack Thinking Day Celebration and a District Thinking Day Celebration.

Our Pack Celebration was Candaian Themed. One Brownie dressed up in Canadian style uniform and we played games and snag songs that our pen pals like to do. Brown Owl cooked some Beavers Tails for us to try - they were delicious - Thanks Brown Owl! we are looking at and Thinking About Brownies in Canada.

For the District Celebration we were thinking about Brownies in the countries affected by the tsunami. We tried food from these countries and various crafts including Origami Lotus Flowers and Shadow Puppets.
