About Us...
Brownies in the new style uniform
We are the 4th Welwyn Garden City Brownie Pack. We meet in the Hollybush area of Welwyn Garden City.
Brownies are girls aged 7 - 11 years old.
We were registered in October 1937, so we are now 70 years old!!!!
We wear the new style Brownie Uniform - Trousers, T-Shirt, Baseball Cap, Gilet, Zip-top, and neckerchief.
We display our badges on our Gilet.
We chose our own Pack Neckercheif in 2002 and the Brownies voted on the colours - Gold and Purple - as these were used for the Queens Golden Jubilee in this year as well.
We have one red neckerchief which is worn by the Best Brownie of the Month.
We currently have 24 Brownies.
3 Guiders - Brown Owl,
Badger and Robin.
1 Unit Helper -
Squirrel.
2 Young Leaders (who attend meetings - the others are at university) -
Mole and
Rabbit.
2 Pack Leaders -
Robin and Otter
In September 2003 we started fantastic new programme -
The Brownie Adventure
What we like to do...
Brownies take part in a variety of activities. We love to go on Pack Holiday or Camp. Our Pack Holiday themes have included Robin Hood, Aladdin, Legoland and Christmas (even though it was held in May!!!). Our latest Pack Holiday in October 2005 was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
In 2002 we worked towards our World Traveller, Star Gazer and Seasons Interest Badges as a Pack. We held a Bring and Buy Sale to raise money for the local Special Care Baby Unit and the Blue Peter Appeal. We went on a trip to Woburn Safari Park, held a 'Back to the 50's' party to celebrate the Queens Golden Jubilee, and in October we celebrated our 65th Birthday with a Party at a Brewers Fayre Pub. At Christmas we made Yule Logs (from flakes and marzipan), painted glass candleholders and made 2003 calendars.
In 2003 we moved from the old Brownie Programme to the New Brownie Adventure. We all tried to complete our current Journey badges before the change. We also worked towards several Interest Badges, as a Pack, during the year - World Guiding, House Orderly, Brownie Traditions and Craft. We raised money for Children with Leukaemia. We had a Teddy Bears Picnic at the end of the Summer Term. At Christmas we made lots of tree decorations - Santa Tree Toppers, Danish Baskets, and Decoupage Decorations.
2004 was the 90th Birthday of Brownies. We worked towards our Cooks, Friend to Animals, and Entertainer Interest Badges as a Pack. We raised money for Children with Leukaemia, painted a National Cycle Path Milepost, and celebrated 90 years of Brownies as a Pack and a District. At Christmas we performed a play called 'A Brownie Christmas' to our friends and families.
2005 has been another exciting year for us. We completed the About Canda interest Badge which is one that our Canadian penfriends do. They did our Brownie Traditions Interest Badge. We have also had a visit from our penfriends mascot, Cookie, during February 2005. During the year Brownies completed various interest Badges including Hostess, Home Skills, Craft, Cook, Advanced Cook, Book Lover and Pack Holiday. Our highlight of the year was Pack Holiday in October where our theme was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We had plenty of fun during the year with an evening in the woods during the summer term and a Christmas Party at Roller City.
2006 has been yet another amazing Brownie Adventure. During the year Brownies completed Entertainer, Craft, World Guiding, Brownie Camper, and Crime Prevention Badges. Some girls got their first Anglia Nights Away badge and we also worked on Right Here Right Now badges the right to be Me and the right to be Happy. We have kept in touch with our Canadian Pen Pals sending them letters and postcards during the year. One of our favourite memories was CHINWAG, the county International Camp, in the Summer, and winning the Iris Falconer Trophy in September.

What we are doing in June 2007...
Trip to Woburn Safari Park
This month we started off with a fun filled trip to Woburn Safari Park as the end to our Environment Interest Badge. The girls enjoyed a great day out spending the morning going around the safari and the afternoon walking around the other part of the zoo including walking though squirrel monkey, lemur, rainbow lorikeet, and the Australian enclosures. they also had plenty of fun on the bob cat slide and swan boats.
Fathers Day
This year the girls tried 3D-Decoupage for Fathers Day. Each Brownie made a 3D card which all looked very effective, hopefully Dads, Grandads, etc., all enjoyed receiving them.
Right to Learn
This month we started to work towards our Right to Learn badge. The next in the Right Here, Right Now series. Brownies completed Hopes and Dreams, writing letters to themselves in 10 years time. How many will open them to see if they fulfilled their dreams? In 2017 if you are one of these Brownies don't forget to email Brown Owl when you open your letter and let us know what you really are doing.
Brownies also completed the Choose your own teacher where they created their ideal teacher and pupil. They also tried Taken for Granted which was interesting to see the following week when our Young Leader ran the game in German!
What we are doing in July 2007...
Right to Learn
We finished off this challenge with crossed, uncrossed or very cross. We have yet to get any Brownies to work this one out!?!
Hawaiian Beach Party
We ended the term with a Hawaiian Beach Party. Every one came dressed in their grass skirts and had a great time. We played pass the beach ball, Hawaiian Islands, Kimo says, Hunt the Flowers, and had a limbo contest. Of course no hawaiian beach party is complete without a tropical fruit cocktail.
70th Birthday Memories
Were you, or someone you know, a member of 4th WGC Brownie Pack? Were you a leader? We'd love to hear from anyone. Please
email us. We'd also love to see any photographs you may have as we are missing a few years from our history (especially pre 1976).
Pack Holiday 2007...
We are currently Planning our next Pack Holiday which will take place in October 2007. We have booked the

We hope the girls all had a great time and here are a few pictures from the camp.
Pack Holiday 2005 - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...
Our last Pack Holiday was in October 2005, and was held at
Wymondley Wood
Scout and Guide Centre.
17 Brownies came on Pack Hoilday and all had a great time.

During Pack Holiday the girls worked on several Interest Badges - Cooks, Advanced Cooks, Hostess, Home Skills, Craft, Out and About, and Pack Holiday.
The Brownies had great fun taking part in various activities including making felt Wonka Factory Banners, Paper Mache Sweet Bead Necklaces, and our Wide Game - Search for the Missing Wonka Bars.
A highlight of the holiday was a visit from Willy Wonkas Car - courtesy of
Beaus and Belles
Our Pen Pals...
2nd Parksville Brownies - Canada
We are pen pals with a Canadian Brownie Pack, 2nd Parksville Brownies. We have received so many great things from them including Christmas and Easter cards from the pack, letters, photographs, stickers and their mascot, Cookie. We have sent letters, badges, and brochures about Welwyn Garden City back to them. We hope Cookie enjoyed her stay with us and that they enjoy all the goodies that she took back with her. The Canadian Brownies have worked towards the Brownie Traditions Interest Badge and we have completed their All About Canda Badge.
We have sent our penfriends one of our neckercheifs. They are using it as their Best Brownie Neckercheif.
In Autumn Term 2005 we have written to our penfriends again. We have received their letters and this time replied using local postcards as part of our World Guiding Interest Badge
