Welcome to the
British School of Costa Rica's
Group 4 Project

The Group 4 Project is an interdisciplinary project that allows students to appreciate the environmental, social and ethical implications of science. It may also allow them to understand the limitations of scientific study, for example, the shortage of appropriate data and/or the lack of resources. The emphasis is on interdisciplinary cooperation and the processes involved in scientific investigation, rather than the products of such investigation. The exercise should be a collaborative experience where concepts and perceptions from across the group 4 disciplines are shared. The intention is that students analyse a topic or problem which can be investigated in each of the science disciplines offered by a school. The topic can be set in a local, national or international context.

From November 13th to November 15th of 2006, practically the whole of the Senior 6 generation went to the biological station of La Selva, to carry out their Group 4 Project. The students spent three days examining the biodiversity-rich forest, the river and its tributaries, and the environmental impact of the station on its surroundings; performing experiments in four scientific areas: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Systems and Physics.
