A bit about us.

The History or Story Behind this club
Chesterton Athletic was only formed in 2002. For two years it was playing under the name of Chesteron United Sunday FC, Rabid dogs.

Chesterton United Sunday Football team was gathered from street corners, pubs, friends, and a slight use of blackmail and press-ganging. Based in the Chesterton area of Cambridge, C.U.S-RD was formed in the summer of 2000. Playing in Division 5 of the Camb's F.A. league. C.U.S-RD soundly established themselves as one of the most "consistent" teams in the league!!!

C.U.S-RD had overcome their greatest challenge. Surviving their first year in the league. In the season 2001/2002 as a team we bettered ourselves, and started to get a little organisation into the team. This was paying off, with a few wins, a couple of draws, and we finished with 12 points, which was 8 more than the season before.

It is fair to say that it has taken us a couple of years to get things sorted. Now if you have ever run or helped to run a Sunday football team, you will know exactly what these “things” are. Players, training, formations etc. But before you even get to that stage, you need pitches, referees, subs money and much more.

We all know the problem of Sunday football, players not playing every week, some not paying their money, players leaving for one reason or another, and the dreaded poaching from other teams in higher divisions.

Now I obviously don’t like this, but lets be honest, no one can stop it, and lets be even more honest, its how we got a lot of players too. But the fact we lost 3 of our influential players for 2002/3 you would have thought it be a problem. But not us.

We get up after every knock-down, we dust ourselves off, stick two fingers up and get on with it again.

There is always a silver lining to the dark clouds, You lose an influential player, but what have we really lost? OK good team mates? One player who did a job! There are many more players out there, some will be good players, some will have ability, some will have a temper, and some will not. Never have I seen a team that revolves around one player. Except maybe Brazil… and France… ok Portugal….:-)

So what does 2002/3 hold for us?
Well we have to rebuild things a little. Loosing a centre back, centre mid, and a striker we soon set about replacing them. Thankfully the three other players that were asked, all Stayed, its this spirit that we start rebuilding from. Already we have a choice of 18 players, and we are still looking at more. We wish our friends that left us all the best, and hope they get what they went to get.
