Cas Holmes:Paper, Textiles and Mixed Media

My work looks at the land, its constant changes. I am interested in the open landscape of the fens, marks made by man in the earth and shadow and reflections in water and flooded fields.My training is in Fine Art and I work between two disciplines, painting and mixed-media textiles. The stitched mark becomes a line of drawing, dye becomes my paint. My base material is paper and fabric. The use of stitch is imperative to how the work holds together. Often,looking at the backs of these works I have been drawn to the unconscious mark-making not normally seen. Recent flooding and its impressive physical changes to the landscape raises questions about our fragile relationship with the environment.
