Colin Jones, who's he then?
Well I was born in Shrewsbury (England) back in 1966, which makes me a youngster compared to most people who keep Exhibition Canaries. My father Walter Jones first got me interested in Canaries when I was a young teenager. Back then I kept Gloster Canaries, and for five years I showed at all the local shows and did reasonably well. However the inevitable happened & I discovered girls, drink & late night curries. This lead to winding up of my hobby, for what I thought would be forever. In the 20 plus years that I was without Canaries I got married, had two beautiful kids & some damn fine times, but it turns out that once you've had Canaries they're always in your blood. A bit like an itch you can't scratch. So in late 2003 I got the family together & outlined the commitment required & the impact it would have on the family. Once approval had been given by the head of the family (the wife), I started to plan what I needed & what type of Canary I would eventually get. The bottom line was that I needed about £1000 to build an aviary & equip it with breeding cages, electrics, drinkers, feeders etc. And it was looking as if I needed about £30 a pair for Fife Canaries off a top local fancier. I'm fortunate that my father is a registered cage maker for the Border Convention, so my show cages were free, which saved me best part of £200 - thanks Dad! I bred 48 youngsters off 7 pairs in my first year (2004), but have purchased the bloodline I want to take forward as my line breeding stock for 2005 onwards.
