The Future of Crescent Chapel |
|
The Crescent English Presbyterian Chapel is looking for funding. Aren't all churches nowadays? There are horrendous costs for various urgent and necessary remedial and health & safety work that the membership just cannot afford. The same is true of our sister chapel, Bethel, which caters for Welsh speaking Presbyterians in Newtown. The combined decision of Crescent and Bethel is to vacate Bethel's chapel and to relocate jointly in that of a re-modelled Crescent. From September 2006, the Crescent membership will be sharing the premises at Capel Coffa, Milford Road, with the members of Capel Coffa and Bethel. Sunday services for the Crescent are at 9.30 am and those for Capel Coffa/Bethel at 11 am. Capel Coffa is a Welsh Congregational chapel and its members have decided that, whenthe building work is completed, they will worship with Crecent and Bethel in the re-constituted Crescent. However, we need funds desperately to restore the Crescent and to adapt it to provide for separate areas to cater for English and Welsh speaking services simultaneously. We are also looking to provide a sort of community centre for the area. The district of Newtown north of the river Severn (Penygloddfa in Llanllwchaiarn to be pernickety) is currently poorly provided with such a facility. Crescent, Bethel and Capel Coffa members are doing their utmost to obtain funds by their own endeavours. Sadly, we find it hard to believe that our solo efforts will be anywhere near sufficient. The sale of Bethel has added much to the rebuilding and refurbishment coffers but it will still not be adequate. Much more is needed. If you have taken the time to read this, perhaps you would kindly take a little extra time to assist us. All donations of whatever amount are welcome. With your help, we will get there! Help us to keep our faith and to spread the gospel in this disappointingly material age.
