Ian is currently the Bandmaster of the Irish Guards and is an extremely experienced and talented musician, conductor and composer. His appointment marks an exciting new phase in the Band’s history. Rounded Rectangle: News Rounded Rectangle: Fantastic fun was had at the Band’s 10th Anniversary Party on Saturday 10th December. Entertainment was provided by some old members of the Band (Al Wynette and Ronnie Finden) in a four-piece jazz band, and there was birthday cake all round! Rounded Rectangle: 1 December 2007 10th Anniversary Party Rounded Rectangle: The Band celebrated its 10th Anniversary by hosting an extremely well attended and successful concert on Saturday 17 November. A representative of the Mayoress of Barnet (Mr and Mrs Victor Lyon) and a local councilor (Councillor Sachin Rajput) were in attendance. Rounded Rectangle: The Band was featured in the Winter 2007 edition of Winds, the music magazine of the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles. The article - “From the Beginning in Barnet” - recorded the Band’s history, the appointment of Ian Mitchell as Musical Director (with a great photo) and our 10th Anniversary concert in November 2007. Rounded Rectangle: The Band elected a new Chairperson at the AGM on Wednesday 23 January 2008 - Justin Wakefield (clarinet), who has previously overseen the Band’s publicity, replaced Jeremy Cline (flute) who resigned after a number of years as Chairperson. The Band’s thanks go to Jeremy who did a great job! Lizbeth Mitchell (baritone saxophone) was also elected as a new committee member. A representative of the Mayoress of Barnet (Councillor Andreas Tambourides) was in attendance and our violin soloist - John Hooper - was a triumph!
