Status: Evil Emperor Lord Zedd made his debut in MMPR series two. We found out that Rita Repulsa was a mere servant to a greater evil. This evil came in the persona of Lord Zedd, another long time enemy of Zordon.
A skinless, skull-less man, with conduits running round the outside of his body, serving as veins or arteries, and his brain revealed from the top of his head, Zedd proved to possess greater powers than Rita, and gained respect from many fans for his no-nonsense and merciless attitude.
He also possesses telescopic vision, sharp, metallic claws and a highly toned, muscular body, plus his sceptre is an enchanted item that can transform from, or back into a large serpent.
His bodily condition is said to stem from a long ago accident with the Zeo Crystal, where Zedd was lucky to survive an attempt to gain ownership of it, for the force field protecting the crystal destroys, or severely damages those who are not pure of heart.
Zedd proceeded to banish Rita back into a space dumpster, destroy the Power Rangers’ Dinozords, and later brought an end to the greatly weakened Green Ranger by draining all of his powers. He is also well known for his impressive, yet flawed titanic dragon Mecha, Serpentera, and of course, who can forget his crush on Pink Ranger Kimberly?
In the latter half of series two, upon requiring one of his centennial recharges, Zedd’s servant Rita Repulsa outwitted him. With Finster’s aid, she had escaped her dumpster, made herself more youthful with ‘Moon Mud’, and then poisoned the sleeping Emperor with a love potion. They were abruptly wed. Her plot was to marry him, then once he had conquered the World, she would ‘discard’ herself of him and return to power.
Never would the sorceress come to do this however...
There were times when Zedd’s obsession with his wife did sometimes backfire on Rita, and get too much for her to handle – the most memorable of these moments probably being when Zedd suggested they have a child together. Rita’s reaction said it all!
Zedd’s quest for world domination only seemed to go downhill from here. Rito Revolto, Rita’s brother, who managed to destroy the Rangers’ Thunderzords in series three, joined his team. The Rangers bounced back with Ninjazords, however, and later stole the Shogunzords from Lord Zedd, too. Despite all of this, Zedd did prove himself in this series by managing to successfully fight against and almost defeat the White Ranger in hand-to-hand combat!
Master Vile later came along, and virtually kicked Zedd from command. His only consolation here was their brief victory courtesy of Vile’s Orb of Doom.
World domination was too good to be true – Zedd’s entourage nearly gained possession of the Zeo Crystal, but lost that chance, and were then shunned out of the picture by the greater power of the invading Machine Empire. Zedd, his wife, Finster, Squatt and Baboo, along with their Tengas, fled the Lunar Palace to live with Master Vile in M51 – they did not have the power to face off with Mondo’s Machine Empire.
Eventually returning to destroy the Machine Empire, and restoring the previously lost and deserted Goldar and Rito to their side, the original Evil villains then vacated the Power Ranger scene pretty much up to PriS, where Zedd then allied with super-villain Dark Spectre, along with other top villains like Divatox and King Mondo.
Using their forces to aid the Dark Spectre and his quest for universal domination, Zedd was foiled one last time by the notorious Power Rangers – along with all evil in the universe! When Zordon was destroyed, a ‘suicide ray’ released from his energy tube saturated the universe, and purified all evil.
Many villains were destroyed, but Zedd was among the few spared. He became a human man, with his wife Rita still by his side. It is unknown of his location or occupation today.
Status: The first Power Ranger evil leader, Rita Repulsa was a vile sorceress. She had been taught many evil spells as a child, and it shows now in her conjuring skills and magical abilities. She is armed with a powerful sceptre – this is the source of her powers and can make, among many things, monsters grow!
She is widely recognisable by her twin cone hairstyle, her caramel-coloured gown and her elegant makeup. Extremely vain, she loves to keep in shape by peddling her flying bicycle wherever she can. Her personal bodyguard is Titanian warrior Goldar, her dedicated monster-maker is Finster, her two scapegoats are Squatt and Baboo and her old friend and fellow warrior is Scorpina.
For centuries she had fought the battle against Zordon in her ambition for universal domination. The war was ended in her and a handful of her minions being trapped in a Space Dumpster by Zordon, for which they remained for 10,000 years! The only consolation Rita got from this was the fact that she had managed to set a trap, and capture Zordon in a time warp for eternity!
With the Dumpster having crashed on the moon of Earth, Zordon set up a Command outpost – to which he could communicate from his time warp through several devices – to watch over the dumpster, should Rita ever escape.
Years later, two human astronauts were sent onto an exhibition to the moon to check the dumpster out. Breaking the first rule of space exploration, the two curious humans actually opened the dumpster – and freed Rita and her cronies!
And so it began...
Zordon assembled a team of freedom fighters against Rita – the Power Rangers! In her following attacks against Earth, the planet she had vowed to conquer in her vengeance, the team of humans with super abilities, who were defending their planet with awesome dinosaur powers, time and again foiled Rita’s plans.
Deciding to finally utilise the Green Power coin that she possessed to create a ranger of her own, she selected talented martial artist, Tommy, to fight for her. He did a good job under the influence of her evil spell and nearly destroyed the command centre and came close to getting rid of Zordon! Only when Zordon was finally recovered by Alpha did the Power Rangers rise to triumph!
Tommy’s spell was broken, and he joined with the Power Rangers. This was a huge blow to Rita, and in her fury she launched even more frequent and violent attacks against the rangers.
She eventually plotted to use the Green Candle against the Power Rangers – or more Tommy in particular. Once lit, this candle would drain the Green Ranger of his energies, and restore them to Rita. The Rangers failed to get the candle away from Rita, but they still managed to thwart her – Tommy gave up his coin to Jason, so that Rita would be unable to gain the Green Ranger powers. Tommy was no longer a ranger, but the team, through Jason, could still use his powers.
This infuriated Rita, but there was little she could do about it. In one of her later assaults, she abducted the Power teens’ parents, and used them as ransom against the rangers. Giving up their coins to Goldar to free their parents, they were left powerless when Goldar revealed how he’d tricked them, and they would not be getting their parents back at all!
Tommy was recalled, and his powers temporarily restored. He saved the day, and ruined Rita’s plot yet again! His powers were now weak and unreliable, however, so he was not the formidable foe he had once been.
Rita’s constant failure attracted unwanted attention...
Witnessing all this from darker places, in a far off galaxy, Lord Zedd, Rita’s master, resolved to replace her himself, and save his empire from the embarrassment of her consistent failure.
He placed the hapless witch into a Zithium cylinder, and mercilessly cast her out to eternally float in space, banished from his palace and from his sight.
Rita vowed to one day return – and after one crash-landing on planet Earth, where Bulk and Skull found the cylinder and almost set her free, she indeed did return. With Finster’s aid, she went about hatching a most fiendish plot to regain her former glory. This involved her wedding the ruthless Lord Zedd!
Finster aided her in restoring her to her regular size, making herself more youthful with Moon Mud and in concocting the potion she required.
Catching him at the perfect moment – when he was asleep, during one of his centennial recharges – Rita proceeded to poison her Emperor with a love potion. He immediately fell in love with her, and the two were quickly wed.
Her plan did not go swimmingly, however, for the Emperor failed to conquer the Power Rangers time after time...
By their first anniversary, Rita’s dim-witted brother Rito Revolto arrived at the palace. Gifting them with Tenga warriors, he destroyed the rangers’ Thunderzords quite effortlessly, but failed to suppress the rangers’ new Ninja powers.
Rita hatched a plot soon after, involving a young, Australian teenager named Katherine. Casting a spell on the girl so that she not only obeyed her, but also had the ability to transform into a cat or a cat monster, Rita and her husband used her to help them ensnare the Pink Ranger, and trick the Power Rangers when necessary.
Again, Rita’s spell was broken, and later, Kat, like Tommy, joined the Power team as the Pink Ranger, replacing Kim.
Rita’s father Master Vile entered onto the scene some time after, and used his Orb of Doom against the rangers and their world. There was brief victory for the villains, until, typically, they were again thwarted.
By this time, it was noticeable that Rita actually has fallen for Zedd, and lost her desire to use him to regain power.
Rita and Zedd later lost possession of the Zeo Crystal, too, and were chased off the scene by the Machine Empire. And, on her advice, Rita, her husband, and all their cronies, except Rito and Goldar, went to live with Vile in M51.
She and Zedd later plotted against the Machine Empire, and after retrieving Goldar and Rito, who had been left on Earth, they eventually managed to destroy the Machine base!
The group of Mighty Morphin aliens then lay low until PRiS, when her and Zedd joined up with Dark Spectre's alliance of Evil. This was her final evil feat, for at the ultimate climax of the war, the Power Rangers thwarted her one last time. When Zordon’s suicide ray washed over her, destroying all evil in its path, she was purified into a human woman. Fortunately for her, her husband was also spared rather than destroyed, like the majority of the villains, and they could only presume to have lived happily ever after...
Status: A powerful winged warrior, he is Rita’s personal bodyguard and her second-in-command. Goldar is a master war tactician and a superb duellist, and has always served in Rita’s army in the intergalactic wars versus Zordon. He has blue fur, black wings and a black mane and tail, red eyes, and he wears a stunning suit of golden armour, without which he is rarely seen. He wields an awesome, golden sword and is a formidable foe.
First to fight the Power Rangers soon after their escape from the dumpster, Goldar proved early on how threatening he was to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the new, young superheroes who fought for Zordon, in defence of their planet.
He was later a large part of the plot involving use of the Green Ranger, helping to train the human Tommy, and aiding him in battle. He was also finally reunited with Scorpina, his battle partner, and possibly his love interest, during this scheme.
The Green Ranger, unfortunately, joined the Power Rangers against Rita, after Tommy broke free of Rita’s influence. Goldar took charge of the last ditch attempt by his empress to restore the Green Power Coin and its powers to her by use of the Green Candle. Although they did not succeed in retrieving the Green Powers – Tommy gave up his coin to Jason, the Red Ranger, preventing the transfer of power back to Rita – the Green Ranger’s powers were well and truly lost. This was a huge blow to the power team...
Goldar piloted the mighty Cyclopsis, his own ancient Zord, in a later plot to overthrow the Power Rangers, and, along with the aid of Lokar, a despicable spirit summoned by Rita, he nearly destroyed the Rangers Zords through its use.
He also once conned the Rangers into giving him their Power Coins when Rita held the Rangers’ own parents at ransom! If it had not been for the fact that the Rangers still possessed the Green Power Coin, and recharged it for Tommy to use against Goldar and the dark forces again, the plot may have been pulled off!
But even after so many attacks against the rangers, all ended in failure for Goldar’s Queen – and Lord Zedd noticed this...
A corrupt and evil man, Zedd was the true ruler of Rita and her band. He returned in response to her consistent and embarrassing failure to conquer Earth, and banished her to a dumpster, replacing her himself.
It was here that Goldar went through an immense character change, and became a ‘spineless, snivelling’ (quote: Lord Zedd) lackey. He completely turned his back on Rita, and his loyalties changed staunchly to be with Lord Zedd.
His fighting skills, too, seemed to suffer, as he was time and again defeated to mortifying extents by the Power Rangers, especially by the new White Ranger! He did, for one last time, get teamed up with Scorpina, in a plot of Lord Zedd’s that involved ensnaring the black ranger through deception, courtesy of Scorpina. That plot, too, failed miserably...
Then came the day of Goldar’s worst nightmare. Left in charge whilst Zedd took his centennial recharge, Goldar returned the set time later to find that, for some crazy reason, Lord Zedd was announcing that he was to marry Rita Repulsa! The vile sorceress herself had returned to gain her own vengeance, and had poisoned the Emperor into marrying her. Goldar was all but oblivious to this, however, and would remain so until Rito foolishly spilt the beans! Outraged by this whole conspiracy, Goldar ordered Finster to cure Zedd of his lust for Rita – and Finster indeed did apply the antidote to Zedd, but it turned out (unless the antidote was a dud) that Zedd really did love Rita...
Just when things seemed to be looking up for the aliens, following Master Vile’s arrival, the Machine Empire arrived. Whilst that caused chaos for Zedd and his entourage on the moon, Goldar and Rito were on Planet Earth, attempting to get the Zeo crystal from the Command Centre! They also had left a detonator in the Command Centre’s lower barracks to destroy it! The detonator backfired on them, however – it exploded whilst they were on their way out! They lost the Zeo Crystal, and their memories!
Following this, Goldar and Rito stuck together, and ended up residing with Bulk and Skull, as their pets and servants. Eventually, Rita and Zedd returned from M51 – where they had fled from the Machine Empire to – and their memories were restored. They followed their evil leaders to victory against the Machine Empire, blowing it to Kingdom come!
Goldar’s services were utilised one last time by his master, as Lord Zedd and Rita later joined the alliance of villains under Dark Spectre. In the final battle – and the ultimate battle, too – Goldar fought to his last, as he was wiped out by the purification ray from Zordon’s energy tube, along with the majority of his evil counterparts.
Status: Old friend of sorceress, Rita Repulsa, Scorpina is a vicious and deadly warrior. She uses a fatal boomerang to knock out her opponents with a lethal blow, or, once she is grown to her giant scorpion form, her foes better get ready to feel her sting!
Her origins are unknown, although it seems apparent that she has served Rita in the past, and took to a long hibernation to await the day of her Empress’ return, once she had been imprisoned, along with some of her minions, in the fabled Zithium cylinder.
A magnificent fighter, she was an important part of the plot involving the Green Ranger, where she finally returned from her hibernation to aid her mistress, and was reunited with Goldar, her battle partner, and seeming love interest.
Following Rita’s consistent failures at the hands of the Power Rangers, the alien bands’ true overlord, the evil Lord Zedd, returned, and banished Rita back to a Space Dumpster for her lack of success. Scorpina here seemed to desert the scene, and was only recalled into Zedd’s service once to aid her Emperor in a plot to ensnare the black ranger. Unfortunately, this ended in failure, and Scorpina was never seen, nor mentioned, again.
It is unknown how, or even if Zordon’s suicide ray affected her in the years that followed.
Status: Rita Repulsa’s dim-witted brother, and son of super-villain Master Vile, Rito is a determined member of the alien team, although he does tend to mess up more often than not. He is a fairly skilled fighter, and becomes a good friend of Goldar’s. His lack of intelligence is often his own downfall.
Arriving to bear his sister, Rita, and his new brother-in-law a late wedding gift, Rito goes on to destroy the Power Rangers’ Thunderzords, leaving them temporarily defenceless. Unfortunately, his impressive first victory doesn’t last, and the Rangers return in full force with even greater Ninja Powers!
He proves more of a burden than an aid to Rita and Lord Zedd, but his stupidity means that he is easy to fool into doing the dirty work.
And, when for a laugh, Lord Zedd allowed the bonehead to take command, Rito only messed up, managing to create a monster by mistake from one of the Power Ranger’s teachers, who only failed!
He and Goldar nearly succeeded in getting possession of the famed Zeo Crystal from the Power Rangers’ Command Centre, after Vile’s Orb of Doom had really messed up the situation for the Rangers. But, unfortunately, the detonator they had set ready to destroy the Command Centre once they had gotten out managed to blow them astray before they were far enough out of the vicinity – they lost the Zeo Crystal, but, even worse, they lost their memories!
Taken in by Bulk and Skull, for Rita and Zedd had left the galaxy from the impending threat of the Machine Empire’s invasion, they remained as pets and slaves to these two humans until their master and mistress at long last returned. Regaining their memories, and finally rejoining with Rita and Zedd, they aided their superiors in gaining revenge against the Machine Empire, and detonating the Machine base! They reclaimed their Lunar Palace, and their pride!
Eventually following Rita and Zedd into the service of Dark Spectre, Rito was in the end destroyed by Zordon’s almighty suicide ray, and wiped from existence like his many counterparts...
Status: Father of Rita Repulsa and Rito Revolto, Master Vile has conquered the M51 galaxy. He looks to succeed where his daughter and her husband failed when it comes to the planet Earth. He is demanding of high standards, and has a high opinion of himself and his plans. He travels the cosmos in his Space Skull ship, and is an almighty force to be reckoned with.
Upon his arrival, he is quite dismayed that his daughter has wed Lord Zedd, and asks her why she could not have married some one with a skull! The tension between Zedd and Vile never does cease from this moment onwards. Zedd gloats that he has caught Ninjor, and holds the Falconzord captive, but Rito immediately messes things up by accidentally freeing Ninjor. Vile is not impressed by either his son or his son-in-law, and immediately sets about in the creation of his ‘master plan’!
Vile’s plan involves the Zeo Crystal, which is hidden in the Caves of Deception below Zedd’s fortress. However, the Zeo Crystal is protected by a force field that decimates any being not pure of heart. Vile, however, seems adamant that he can get this crystal.
Proceeding to do other steps of his plan, he first feeds the Tenga warriors a special substance, which increases their strength dramatically, and then creates an incredible monster called the Globber, which goes on to drain the powers of the rangers and the Zords. The final step is to recapture Ninjor!
But Vile has an even more deadly trick up his sleeve – the Orb of Doom! Using this omnipotent object, he succeeds in turning all the Rangers, and much of the population of Earth, back into children! Left powerless, the Rangers nearly fall foul to Vile – if it were not for the Alien Rangers! Vile’s plan in the end is quashed.
Vile later, after returning to his home galaxy, supplies his daughter, her husband, and their cronies with temporary homage, as the overwhelming might of the Machine Empire drives them from the Lunar Palace, and out of the galaxy.
Vile is another one of the villains who, too, joins Dark Spectre’s alliance of Evil! However, like many others, it is certain that he fell foul to the suicide ray that emerged from Zordon’s energy tube, and made Evil virtually extinct!
Status: Devoted and blindly loyal to Rita Repulsa, Finster was the original alien team’s monster maker. Using special space clay to mould putty patrollers and terrible monsters, he was an indispensable member of Rita’s squad. He has, on average, about half a brain, which deems him the most intelligent of the alien bunch, and he at least has the intelligence to know when to stay away from Rita Repulsa!
His services were made redundant upon the arrival of the band’s true master, the malevolent Lord Zedd, although he proved useful for the return of his mistress, Rita Repulsa. It was his skills that enabled Rita to make herself more youthful in appearance, and, most important of all, enabled her to wed Lord Zedd. Rita had revealed her plot to Finster, and the Clayobian monster maker was more than willing to help his mistress return to power.
He began to create monsters for the evil couple once more after the arrival of Rita’s brother, the almighty imbecile Rito. It was also his skills that uncovered the location of the dormant Shogunzords, which came close to providing victory to Lord Zedd!
Finster was first to notice the invasion of the Machine Empire near by the Moon, and first to suggest their own departure, realising the danger that they were in! Along with Zedd, Rita and the rest of the crew – excluding Goldar and Rito, stranded on Earth – fled in Serpentera to M51, to find safe homage with Master Vile.
They returned to gain vengeance on the Machine Empire, collecting Rito and Goldar, and eventually managing to detonate the Machine Base!
Status: Half warthog, half blueberry, oxygen in the atmosphere has caused spikes to sprout up all over his body. He has a brain the size of a peach pip, so is one of the dimmest of the bunch, and tends to suffer from Rita’s rebuking when he does not even comprehend why. He is Baboo’s best friend and fellow scapegoat, and is never trusted to do very complex tasks, if any at all! He tends to get over excited some times whilst watching the battles against the Power Rangers. This irritates Rita, and leads to more punishment for the pudgy alien.
Upon the arrival of Lord Zedd, Squatt is kept on in his service, proving a mere scapegoat for his returning Emperor, and still only trusted to minor tasks. He continues to prove just as worthless, as does Baboo, for the rest of his life.
When the Machine Empire invaded, he fled to M51, the home of Master Vile, along with his intergalactic master and mistress.
In the end, he followed Rita and Zedd when they became part of Dark Spectre’s alliance of Evil, and he was ill fated enough to be annihilated by Zordon’s suicide ray.
Status: A reject from the Planet of the Apes, Baboo is one of the simpler space simians. His role on the team is about as useless as Squatt’s – he is the team cheerleader, and is the chief scapegoat. This explains his constant kissing up to Rita Repulsa. Also Squatt’s best friend, he is never trusted with any vastly important tasks, and tries to keep his friend Squatt in check.
Upon the arrival of Lord Zedd, Baboo is kept on in his service, proving a mere scapegoat for his returning Emperor, and still only trusted to minor tasks. He continues in this role for the rest of his life.
When the Machine Empire invaded, he fled to M51, the home of Master Vile, along with his intergalactic master and mistress.
In the end, he followed Rita and Zedd when they became part of Dark Spectre’s alliance of Evil, and he was unfortunate enough to be decimated by Zordon’s ray of purification. That ray lost the battle for all villainy.
And so ended Baboo’s sad and worthless existence...
They are produced from special clay from Finster’s home planet of Clayobious, and are baked in the Monster Matic machine in Finster’s workshop. They are grey, with red eyes and black, tiger-like stripes. They also come in a rock form, but these putties were rarely used. Stronger putties can be produced from a substance known as super putty, but this is in short supply.

Lord Zedd came equipped with his own ranks of putties in series 2 of MMPR. More white than grey, these new putties wore ‘Z’ chest plates, and various armaments over their bodies. Better fighters than those Finster produced, their fault lay in that a mere hit or two to their ‘Z’ chest plates destroyed them.
The last of the putty patrol were wiped out by Zordon’s suicide ray in the ultimate Power Ranger battle finale...
Status: Large and skilled bird warriors that Rito Revolto gifted his sister and brother-in-law as a late wedding present. They are stronger fighters than the putties, but they still did not have enough spunk to over come the Power Rangers. They can fly well, despite their size, and the odd proportion of their legs to their bodies.
Upon Vile’s arrival, the Tengas powers multiplied, for the decrepit dictator gave them a special feed to turn them into Super Tengas! The tengas strength increased dramatically, and only the Rangers’ metallic armour saved them from defeat!
When the Machine Empire invades, the Tengas are taken with the rest of the alien band, to seek refuge in M51, with Master Vile.
These bird warriors resume their use once more when Lord Zedd and Rita join Dark Spectre’s alliance, and they are sent out to fight the good guys! Zordon’s suicide ray presumably wipes them all out.
