I have been building
and flying model aircraft for 7 years and have found it to be a challenging
and fun hobby. In 2004/5 I finally got around to completing my A and B certs. Worse than doing the driving test..... ;)
Sport/Scale/Giant scale/Amateur aerobatics to world championship level
aerobatics. You can fly models from grass, tarmac, or water, you can throw
a glider off the top of a hill and pit your flying skill against the elements.
You can even tow a glider up with another powered model.
You can fly helicopters at all levels from club funflying to international
competition, so there is really a level for all to enjoy.
Of course this merely scratches the surface of what you can do in radio
control. Almost all forms of man made machines have been re-created in
scale radio control models. I however am primarily interested in fixed
wing aircraft.
So to satisfy your particular interest, your first step is to join a club
near you. Click on the MACI button above as a good source of clubs locations
and contacts. M.A.C.I. is the governing body in Ireland for Model Aviation.
Click and read on.
WARNING...Do
not even dream about putting a model into the air without joining a club
and MACI. It insures you and also teaches you to fly safely. They may
be models but they are not toys, and the damage that an out of control
model can do to a person can be severe and possibly fatal.
