1 was seen distantly from the boat off Bamburi, North Mombasa.

Birds were identified from the boat in non-breeding plumage.

1 was found at the Aruba Lodge lake in the Tsavo East NP.

2 groups totalling 19 birds were seen in the Tsavo East NP.
82. Palm-nut Vulture (Gypohierax angolensis)
1 was seen near Tiwi beach. Another was seen.
83. African White-backed Vulture (Gyps africanus)
2 were seen in the Shimba Hills and 1 at the Bamburi NR.
Shockingly none were seen inland!
84. Lappet-faced Vulture (Torgos t. tracheliotus)
A solitary juvenile was seen around the Aruba Lodge in the Tsavo East NP.
85. Bateleur (Terathopius ecaudatus)
Only seen in the Tsavo East NP where fairly common.
86. Long-crested Eagle (Lophaetus occipitalis)
2 were seen about 20km inland from Tiwi.
87. Steppe Eagle (Aquila nipalensis orientalis)
Singles were frequently seen inland.
88. Tawny Eagle (Aquila r. rapax)
5 were seen together on the ground at the Aruba Lodge, Tsavo East NP.

4+ were found in the Tsavo East NP.

1 adult was seen in flight in the Shimba Hills.

94. Black Kite (Milvus migrans parasitus)
Singles seen throughout.
95. Wahlberg's Eagle (Aquila wahlbergi)
4 birds were seen around the Arabuko-Sokoke forest.
96. Brown Snake Eagle (Circaetus cinereus)
1 was found 20km inland from Tiwi.
97. Southern Banded Snake Eagle (Circaetus fasciolatus)
1 was found at the Arabuko-Sokoke swamp.
98. African Hawk-eagle (Hieraaetus spilogaster)
1 was seen well in flight in the hills near Voi Safari Lodge.
99. African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer)
Widespread. 3 were at the Arabuko-Sokoke swamp.
100. Martial Eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus)
All 3 were seen in the Tsavo East NP. The 1st was seen between Buchuma and Aruba Lodge and was an adult. The 2nd was seen Flying over the Aruba Lodge and was a juvenile and the 3rd was seen near the Voi Safari Lodge and was again a juvenile.
101. African Goshawk (Accipiter tachiro sparsimfasciatus)
1 was seen briefly near the Shimba Hill NP entrance.
102. Montagu's Harrier (Circus pygargus)
4 were seen inside the Tsavo East NP.
103. Pallid Harrier (Circus Macrourus)
6 were seen inside the Tsavo East NP. Excellent views of some superb males were obtained.
104. Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus minor)
1 juvenile was seen in the Bamburi Beach Hotel grounds and 2 were seen in the Taita Hills.
105. Sooty Falcon (Falco concolor)
Only 1 was positively identified in the Tsavo East NP.
106. Amur Falcon (Falco amurensis)
A massive flock containing at least 500 birds was witnessed in the Tsavo East NP during the afternoon of the 27th.
107. Common Kestrel (Falco t. tinnunculus)
A few were seen around the Aruba Lodge.
108. Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus c. caeruleus)
2 were seen between Tiwi and the Shimba Hills and only a few were seen after that.
109. African Orange-bellied Parrot (Poicephalus r. rufiventris)
2 were seen at Buchuma (Tsavo East entrance).
110. Brown-headed Parrot (Poicephalus cyrptoxanthus)
1 was seen between the Shimba Hills and the coast, 2 were seen inside the Bamburi NR and another was seen flying over the Bamburi Beach Hotel.

2 were seen on the ground in the Tsavo East NP.

1 was positively identified inside the Tsavo East NP.

1 adult was found at the Aruba Lodge.

1 was found at the Aruba Lodge, Tsavo East NP during the day.

1 was heard calling in the Arabuko-Sokoke forest at night.

2 were heard calling in the Arabuko-Sokoke forest at night.

A small flock was seen over the Taita Hills. Swifts flying around Voi Safari Lodge were probably Black but identification remains uncertain.

Fairly common in Tsavo East NP.

Fairly common.
141. Mangrove Kingfisher (Halcyon senegaloides)
1 was found in the Arabuko-Sokoke swamp.
142. Brown-hooded Kingfisher (Halcyon albiventris orientalis)
Widespread but uncommon. Often seen at Bamburi NR.
143. Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle r. rudis)
4 were recorded inside the Bamburi NR.

Singles seen inland but nowhere common.
145. Carmine Bee-eater (Merops nubicus)
A few flocks were seen around Mida Creek but 250+ at the Arabuko-Sokoke swamp was one of the highlights of the entire trip.
