April 05 - Hughie Jones has released a new CD - 'Live in Snug Harbor'. This one includes lots of long introductions to the songs so there's a really different feel to the CD; just like being at a gig! Hughie and Ken Lardner have spent a long time mastering the sound so it sounds pretty impressive and includes the previously unrecorded 'The Cape Horner' amongst nine other favourites. Click on 'Links' and go to the Chantey Cabin homepage for your own copy!
Hughie's festival itinerary for 2005 is also on 'Hughie's Page'
December 04 - Mick Groves' long-awaited CD is now available and there will soon be a new Mick Groves website. 'Fellow Journeyman - Mick Groves sings the songs of Ewan MacColl' will be officially launched soon but advance copies can be ordered now, just e-mail me for details before the new site is up and the record is in the shops.
7/8/04 - Mick Groves is doing a lot of charity gigs in and around Exeter as well as supporting the local folk clubs. One Friday at The City Gate Folk Club, Exeter, floor singers included not only Mick Groves but also Cyril Tawney. Mick's next charity gig is at The Red Lion, Shobrooke, near Crediton on Friday 3rd September 2004 when he will be helping to raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance.
18/02/04 - Hughie's festival itinerary for the coming year and some details of his trip to the US are now on 'Hughie's Page'
8/12/03 - I've added several songs to the 'chords' section - they are from the 60's/70's book, so will be useful to a lot of folk I hope. I won't include the songs from Hughie Jones as you can buy his book for those!
1/6/03 - Hi You'all,
Here I am in the great metropolis of CHICAGO.I am visiting Little Mattie Groves (No.2 son) and his lovely wife Sarah for the third birthday of my grandson Henry Matsu Nishiura Groves. Still getting to the Globe at Topsham most Sundays but not when I am in Chicago or Australia.
CHEERS, Mick
4/05/03 - Cliff Hall has been in touch - here's what he says... Finally found my way around my computer and found your page. Lovely to know that our fans still remember us, we always appreciated the support we got from them. I now live in Adelaide with my wife Dorothy and although I do miss family and friends from time to time I am very happy and settled here. It was lovely to have Mick and his wife Doreen out to see us in January. Mick and I did a few numbers at my local folk club which we both enjoyed. It was the first time I had sung in public since we retired! Keep up the good work, God Bless, Love to all our fans, Cliff

Back in the 1960's they were playing their blend of British and world folk set to a modern guitar sound in Liverpool and around the world. In the 1970's I recall sitting ensconsed as a child in front of the television as they played sets on their own show. Then, in the 1980's I got to see them play live several times, as well as hear their excellent radio shows which I have sadly now got no more than a couple of copies.
In general, this is the state of things: Mick was Chair of Education on Wirral Borough Council and was featured on 'After They Were Famous' on UK TV; he has now moved to the west country. Tony is still very much in action singing, both Sea music and Jazz. Hughie is gigging and has released three solo records in the Spinners' mould; there is a review of one in the links page, and a link to his merchandise site. There is now a page which I will maintain on Hughie's behalf, giving details of all his CD's and information if you would like to book him for gigs. As for Cliff, he has retired and is spending time in the UK, Majorca and, this winter, Australia.Cliff, Mick, Tony and Hughie are all delighted that everyone is still interested in the music and they have promised the site any new information as it becomes available. It is worth checking back regularly; I put up information as and when it reaches me! Alternatively, click on the 'Mind-It' form at the end of the page and you can receive a mail whenever I change anything on the page.
Lots of people have asked for a club to post messages about The Spinners, so I have set one up. It's free and easy to join Yahoo! Clubs and this is an opportunity to share memories, provide news and updates that don't come to the website first, and ask questions of other members. Look out for online discussions, see the 'calendar' for details.
