GOLD SAUCER

CHOCOBO SQUARE

There are two ways of earning GP and items in the area of the Gold Saucer. These are racing your own chocobo and by betting on chocobo races.

There are four Ranks that you can compete in or bet on, these are C, B, A and S Ranks. the prizes are higher the better the rank.

You can race or bet on one of two races the long course or short course. The long race favour chocobos with good stamina.

Betting on Races.

When you first go to Chocobo square you will only be able to place bets on ranks C and B. You are able to bet on A and S rank races when you have a chocobo of the same rank. To place a bet you have to talk to the receptionist behind the bookmakers desk. When you do she will offer you the choice of rank to bet on, when you have decided which rank you want to bet on you will see the screen below.

You must know decide which two chocobos will finish first and second in any order and then purchase the ticket for 200 Gil.

You can view the stats (top speed and stamina) and rotate the chocobo by pushing L1, L2, R1 and R2., this will help you make your choice.

If your choice is correct you will win an item or GP, never both. the prize you receive is random.

*TIP* - Whenever there is a black chocobo called Teioh its almost certain he will win if you are only betting not racing.

The prizes available here are the same as when you race yourself.

Racing your own Chocobos

When you own the stables at the chocobo ranch you can catch and race chocobos to earn prizes and improve your chocobos rank.

To Race a chocobo you must speak to Ester and register the chocobo that you want to race on. She will then give you the option of the long race or the short race.

You will then be taken to the same screen as you are when you place a bet, although this time you are not able to buy any tickets.

You can still view the stats (top speed and stamina) and rotate the chocobos in the race by pushing L1, L2, R1 and R2, this allow you to view your opponents stats.

Now it is time for the race. Before the race starts push the start button for manual control otherwise the race will be run by automatically.

When the race is started you can speed up the chocobo by pushing square however if you go to fast your chocobo will loose stamina, this also happens when you push the circle button to sprint. you can slow down the rate of stamina loss by holding down the R1 and R2 buttons.

There are sections in the race where most chocobos will slow down, if you have a green, black or gold chocobo they will not be affected by theses sections.

You only win a prize if you finish first and just like betting on chocobos the prize is either an item or GP and is randomly decided.

To move up in rank you must win three races.

Some of the items that can be won while racing or betting on chocobo races can only be obtained in this way so if you want them it is important to raise a good chocobo. Here is a list of prizes available:
