History group
The Howden history group started about five years ago when the local WEA started a class on the History of Howden. About 20 or so people joined the class which was set to run for 10 weeks. Well, five years down the road the majority of that original class are still turning up on a Thursday evening to discuss the history of Howden.

Less of a class now, more a group of friends and discussing not only
the history of Howden, but the local towns and villages in the area plus
dipping into history in general. How Howden was effected by the Civil War for example. How the port of Goole flourished in the early part of the 19th century with ships arriving from far off parts of the globe.
Over the five years some of the original class have left and have been replaced by other people who are keen to learn about their ancestors who grew up in Howden or the adjacent towns / villages. Some like myself who have no connections whatsoever with Howden, my wife and I just moved up to the area from the South because my wife has a sister and brother living in Goole, but we have been overwhelmed and surprised with past glory days of this small East Riding Market Town.
There are classes still being held on Goole and Gilberdyke.
