Working to Bee a Better Beekeeper in Central Scotland

Welcome to the
Dunblane and Stirling Beekeepers Association
News and Information

Dunblane and Stirling Beekeepers are a very friendly mixed crowd of all generations who share a common interest in beekeeping. We have regular Apiary meetings during summer and have a excellent lecture programmer during the winter months at Cowen Centre, Stirling.

The Association is situated near Stirling and central to Glasgow and Edinburgh. in Central Scotland. Click here for a location map or here to see the site menu/site map.

OUR PAST
The original association was the Stirling District Beekeepers Association, which was formed by several very keen beekeepers who came together to assist in the transportation of hives to the heather at Doune. This association was formed after the first war and the subscription was very minimal indeed the Juniors paid a shilling.
Around the time of the formation of the Scottish Beekeepers Association the President was a Dunblane man and he encouraged the amalgamation of the two districts not without some opposition.
The combine association has some very respected and indeed internationally renowned as exhibitors of honey at Crystal Palace in London. Bobby Clark worn the Thistle Cup three years in a row. Jimmy Bayne from Dunblane was a real export at handling bees seldom using smoke to subdue the colony.
When the Stirling Flower Show was held in the Albert Hall, Stirling in the mid 70's the association ran an open Honey Show which was judged by Val Johns and the standard was high with entries from local associations of Falkirk and Clackmannan as well as further afield. The last show was in 1976 when the hire of the hall became prohibitive.
Jhon Rennie began the beginners classes and these have continued with good attendances to this day with some excellent teachers.
We have move with the times and many members receive their information by email about the monthly meetings. (Thanks to Claud Wilson, who provided the material about "Our Past", obviously if you have more have information, please email to webmaster).
