A number of different activities organized by
scandinavians living in Dublin take place around Christmas time. The Irish
Scandinavian Club organizes a Christmas Party for adults and children in
December. Traditional christmas food made by our members is served and we dance
around the christmas tree.
The annual 2006 Christmas party took place on Sunday the 10th of December in
Stillorgan. Maeve had organised the event and many had prepared Scandinavian
food and baked goods to bring along, so there was nothing missing! The tree was
decorated with traditional Scandinavian decorations, and the tables were as
festive as ever! There was a really good turnout, and unlike the previous year
there were many families with children.
The Swedish Women's Association (SWEA) in Dublin organizes a Christmas bazaar
where handicraft, home-made bakery (e.g. lussekatter, ginger bread), spiced wine
(glögg) and various specialities imported from Sweden are sold. Some children
and their parents take part in the Lucia procession. There is also a Lucia
procession at the Scandinavian mass held in the German church on Adelaide Road
before Christmas. Mass is followed by glögg/coffee and bakery.
Did you know that the public Christmas trees that you can see in Dublin at
Christmas time decorated in blue, red or white lights are gifts from the city of
Gothenburg, Sweden!
