There are currently 48 countries which are indentified as least developed. These make up a total population of 610.5 million, which is the equivilent to 10.5 per cent of the worlds overall population (UNCTAD estimates). Integration of these least developed and other low-income developing countries into organisations such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO) is percieved as an important issue for economic growth of the regions which are most suffering. The table shows recent (2000) figures of key indicators of growth from the WDI database.
This website aims to look in two regions of least developed countries, Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, and also considers the role of the WTO. Author of this site: E L Dyer.
