17/09/02 ESP MISS OUT ON MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE
Ms Dynamite has won the Mercury Music Prize with her debut album 'A Little Deeper'. She was awarded it ahead of bookies favourites, The Streets and The Coral. The 21-year-old picked up a cheque for £20,000 at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Ms Dynamite herself, Doves, Gemma Hayes and Roots Manuva all performed live at the event. ESP missed out on the award but were never front runners for the prize so won't be overly disappointed as the attention can only enhance their reputation.
17/09/02 ESP IN MANCHESTER WITH OASIS
On both Saturday and Sunday of the prior weekend ESP supported Oasis on their 50,000 sell out gigs in Manchester. On the Sunday they appeared on stage around 5:30 pm after a performance by Soundtrack Of Our Lives, and although obviously being a little nervous, they put on a good show, ending as always with a mammoth Silent To The Dark. During the set Noel could be seen watching their set for a few songs and later that evening he thanked ESP, and also commented that the performance by Soundtrack Of Our Lives was "the best gig he has ever seen, apart from any by us of course!". The set list was the same on both days and was as follows:
Start Again There's A Silence Stay Where You Are Empty At The End Red Balloon For Me Moodswing [Folk Implosion cover] Same Way, Every Day (Biting The Soles Of My Feet) Silent To The Dark
