The Electric Soft Parade - Holes In World
If you wanted to show a Martian what British indie music was like in the 1990s you'd probably play them a bit of Oasis, a bit of Blur, some Supergrass, and maybe a few tracks by Pulp, Gomez and the Boo Radleys. Or you could just play them this: Holes In The World [sic] - the debut album by The Electric Soft Parade. In some ways it's a typical debut album, in that it's more about promise than delivery, more about pastiche than originality. But there's no denying these kids (they're all still teenagers) have got the ability to turn a good tune. New single, 'Silent To The Dark' is particularly memorable, at least until it turns into Pink Floyd towards the end. This is essentially record collection rock but it's exceptionally well done, especially when you consider they've barely had time to build up a very extensive collection at all. Definitely ones to watch.
