Holes In The Wall

Who they? Debut album from Brighton-based teenage brothers Alex and Tom (both play guitar), whose brand of indie pop manages to combine Teenage Fanclub-style hooks with the contrariness of early Verve. Multiple recording locations included Alex's bedroom.

Any good? The opening triumvirate will please fans of both hummable tunes and high-in-the-mix guitars, but after that it begins to veer dangerously towards the territory of indie-underachiever averageness. Things only pick up again towards the end with the sweeping and invigorating Biting The Soles Of My Feet.

Must hear ESP are at their best during their rockier moments such as Empty At the End, which blends a catchy chorus worthy of the Boo Radleys with pleasungly rawk guitar histrionics. A winning combination.

Why buy? You need evidence that bedroom noodling doesn't necessarily mean the end results have to sound like Badly drawn Boy.
