The Opera Nazionale Balilla was the fascist organization aimed at children of elementary school age. The image below is the cover and back cover of the membership card which children carried in 1928. Membership was quasi-universal, especially as the 1930s wore on. Activities for the Balilla children were heavily focused on a regimented, semi-military lifestyle. The aim was to turn children into "good fascists" through education. The pledge on the back cover - much like the "Scout Promise" - is exemplary of the values that fascism wanted to instil in children. The translation of the pledge is as follows:I swear to execute without discussion the orders of the Duce and to serve with all my strength and if necessary with my blood the cause of the fascist revolution.
