Born: Richard Starkey (7/7/1940) The son of Richard and Elsie. His parents split up in 1943 and his mother married Harry Graves. At the age of 16 Ringo could hardly read and after illness had affected his schooling, he had been in a coma and suffered from pleurisy just to name same of the unfortunate illnesses he suffered from. His stepfather had purchased Ringo a drum kit and at 16 started to play in bands. At nineteen he joined Rory Storm and the Hurricanes and got the name 'Ringo' because of his rings and 'Starr' because his solo's were known as 'star time'. In February 1965 he married Maureen Cox and they had three children Zak, Jason and Lee all musical with one playing with another Liverpool band the 'Lightning Seeds' as a drummer. In 75 he married Barbara Bach and he appeared in a film and TV series with her. He also had his own TV special 'Ringo'. Ringo tours with his All Starr band which includes his son Zak. |
