Born: John Winton Lennon (9/10/1940)

Died: John Ono Lennon (8/12/1980)

The son of Julia and Fred Lennon but lived with his aunt Mimi and uncle George during his childhood.  Only saw his father at the age of five and didn't see as much of his mother as he would of liked.  Mimi bought him his first guitar and his mother taught him to play 'That'll Be The Day' on the banjo.  When he was 15 uncle George died and at 17 his mother was killed in a car accident.  These events affected him profusely and without getting too Freudian were probably the reason for his prickly exterior.  He was rebellious as a teen  but at the age of 15 he formed the Quarrymen named after his school Quarry Bank.  During the Beatles early success he married Cynthia Powell in 1962 and she gave birth to John first son Julian.  In 1966 he met the avant-garde artist Yoko Ono eventually leaving Cynthia and marrying Yoko.  In 1975 Johns second son Sean was born and he 'retired' from music to devote himself to his new born child.

John was shot by mentally disturbed fan Mark David Chapman outside his New York apartment on December 8th 1980
