Truly Robbed
I don't believe it!
said Victor Meldrew.....and neither do we!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, it's budget time again folks and what do we hear?
yes, it's the sound of cash tills ringing in council halls across
the county.
Northamptonshire County Council putting up Council Tax by around
THREE TIMES the rate of inflation.
Corby Borough Council putting theirs up by over TWICE
the rate of inflation
And what is the reaction of our political leaders?
Why, they pat themselves on the back and say, well it's ONLY...............
In Corby, the current leader, Rob Hearne, states
"....it is expected that Full Council will limit the Council Tax increase
next year to 5% as promised"
..........and without any cuts in service to!
....until next year that is, when this years election
is over
(council's stated policy - 'continued disposal of leisure
facilities')
Don't forget Rob, you have also promised
an increase
of 5% for the next two years as well
So...... lets see, that's
15% last year
5% this year
5% next year
5% the year after
a massive
30 % increase
over four years

Truly Rob?
or should that be
Truly Robbed?
......oh,
and what about the
THREE MILLION POUND black hole in Corby Borough Council
accounts around 2004?
Corby Council's own asset disposal program includes
the
sale of ex-civic centre/theatre land
around 2004
Income around £3m.
The council has stated that future budgets are
dependant on keeping to the asset disposal program
Now......................
YOU SAY YOU HAVE NO PLANS TO SELL
THE WILLOWS THEATRE/CIVIC CENTRE/SWIMMING POOL LAND
(info provided by the District Auditor)
Now.........................
This sale is a 'KEY PART OF COUNCILS PLANS
FOR FUTURE DISPOSAL OF ASSETS'
(info provided by the District Auditor)
So, even we can add up 2 + 2 = 4
need to sell for £3m - not sold for £3m = one
large black hole
............pull the other one, Rob
