What this Site is For

French on the Internet is meant to be a repository of free resources on the web about the french language and culture in the world. Particular emphasis is put on France and the francophone countries, but users the world over can make use of these links.

I've tried to strike a balance between making the website exhaustive and selecting good quality links. And, in the words of Mr. Eco,

The list could surely go on, and there is nothing more wonderful than a list, instrument of wondrous hypotyposis*.

--Umberto Eco
"The Name of the Rose"

* A vivid, picturesque description of scenes or events.

A Note on the Ascii Art

I came across this form of art while surfing on the net. I don't have an artistic bone in my body, but I sure can appreciate a good thing when I see it!

I've chosen to display some of the smaller images I liked on this site, but there are lots more incredible stuff out there.

I've made every effort to give the credit where it is due, and much of the artwork is signed. However, there are some unsigned images I couldn't resist. If they're yours, let me know and I'll correct the omission.

Most of the quotations with the images have been added by li'l ol' me.

I found the majority of the Ascii art at these sites:

You can hang around at alt.ascii-art too, if you'd like to learn more.

Here are some of the larger images you might like:
n.b.: due to the need for a dark background to display the artwork, the menu links on these pages are a different color.
