About Me

Well, it's been interesting...  I gave up a 'City' information job at a Merchant Bank to retrain as a primary school teacher. Despite a reputation at University for wine, women and student politics, I gained a First and Qualified Teacher Status. Instead of teaching, I ended up working in the USA for 2 years as the Assistant Director of a Children's Summer Camp. I loved the summers, but Michigan is very COLD in the winter!

I returned to Reading to teach in a Junior School in Whitley in 2003. I'm currently Curriculum Leader for Science, G.T.P Mentor, Assessment Co-ordinator, a School Governor and a "Fast Track" Teacher.  My spare time (ha!) is spent with Ruth and playing hockey and cricket. I'm still interested (and active) in local politics and as if that wasn't enough, I'm studying (part-time) for a Masters in Education.

Sports & Hobbies

Sport:  I play Hockey for Sonning HC and Cricket for Stratfield Turgis & Hartley Wespall CC.  I've also been known to play Squash and Badminton, and go to the gym very occasionally.

Reading: I will read pretty much anything - fiction or non-fiction.  Authors I like include Paul Theroux, Bill Bryson, Jostein Gaarder, Nick Hornby, Douglas Adams, Ben Elton and Roddy Doyle.  I am also a member of a book club with several current and former school colleagues.   We've read an interesting range of books, including:  Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, Small Island by Andrea Levy, The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins and The Grass is Singing by Doris Lessing.

Film & TV: I love going to the cinema!  I will watch pretty much anything as long as it is well written and the acting is good.  I particularly like anything directed by the Coen brothers or Kevin Smith and anything starring John Cusack, Francis McDormand and Al Pacino.  I also go to Reading's independent film theatre regularly.  I don't watch a huge amount of TV (except maybe for the cricket), but I do like Lost, Dr. Who, The West Wing, The Office, Black Adder and Red Dwarf.

Theatre / Comedy / Live Music:  Theatre I went to see National Anthems (Starring Kevin Spacey) last year.  I saw Anthony & Cleopatra at The Globe in June and Donkeys Years at the Comedy Theatre in October last year.  Going to see Underneath the Lintel starring Richard Schiff in March.  Comedy:  I saw Ben Elton and Jo Brand last year.  My favourite stand-up of all time is Eddie Izzard.  I recently saw Mark Thomas and Michael McIntyre as 21 South Street - this guy is hilarious and very much in the mould of Eddie!   Live Music:  I saw REM last summer and the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Strokes during this year.  I also went to Reading and  WOMAD Festivals in 2006.

Travel: See my travel pages.

Eating out:  Indian, Thai, Italian & Vegetarian (which is why I have to play lots of sport!).
