Jackson Faces life
The case against Micahel Jackson took a dramatic turn on Friday when the full list of charges was read out in court. They included new charges of extortion, child abduction and false imprisonment. If convicted of all ten counts against him, most of which relate to child molestation, he could face life in prison. Jackson pleaded not guilty to all counts, but court reports suggest that he and his new legal team - he fired the old one last week - were stunned by the new allegations.
The new charges apparently relate to an alledged incident when two of Jackson's entourage held the family of the boy involved, against their will, at the singer's Neverland ranch and tried to persuade them to leave for Brazil. The singer's lawyer says that the family were there to seek Micheal's "help and generosity".
But the tabs quote American legal expert Harvey Levin, who says that the case may hinge on whether the jury believes Jackson's version of events. If they choose to believe he did try and force the family out of the US they may wonder why, and that may lead them to conclude he has something to hide. The judge reportedly wants the case decided by the end of the eyar, so expect the full trial to begin in the autumn.
