History - The Club

Great Oakley Cricket Club, is one of the most celebrated and oldest established clubs in the county. It has a reputation for producing fine players in the past and is recorded as playing cricket as far back as 1874, when the players wore top hats.

The original ground was at Bridge Close, near Oakley Hay. It was reached by walking to the Spread Eagle pub towards Kettering, then crossing a bridge spanning Harpers Brook, and then climbing a stile on the right; the pitch was parallel to the Brook, near the path to Pipewell.

In 1892, the club moved to Horse Close at the back of Oakley Hall in the village, then in 1894 to Danesham (Danesholme) Close in a field at the west side of the then Kettering - Uppingham road.

Later, in 1920, the club moved to the 'Top Park' not far from where it is today.
