History - Incidents

One notable incident is that of the biggest ever hit made - at the original ground at Bridge Close. Apparently, the ball went clean over a field, over the little bridge infront of the Spread Eagle Pub, and into a meadow on the far side of the road.

Another, is where a nine was hit - presumably where the players kept on running while a seemingly 'lost' ball was retrieved! (It is believed that the laws were different then).

1965 was notable for an astonishing match played between the club and Cranford. Oakley had been skittled out for a miserly 41. At tea, Cranford were 30 for 2. What happened after the interval is unbelievable: eight wickets fell for only four runs with two bowlers taking the wickets between them, Mick Salter, 7 for 13 and current club Chairman Mick York, 3 for 10. The opposition were all out for 34!
