FAQ of the Hidden Blades

The Hidden Blade is a secretive, non-guild Assassin's society.  Its primary aims are to foster the skills and abilities of the individual, to provide aid to members, and to find ways of improving the Assassin class.

The society is run by a highly capable individual (the Grand Master of the Blade) whose identity is unknown to all but a few members. The society itself is very democratic, with all members being equal.  Important decisions within the society are determined by way of a vote, with the Grand Master making the final deciding choice if there is no clear majority.

The Hidden Blade has no political or social goals and is crown neutral; its only concern is for itself and its members. Therefore, members may carry out deeds which some would consider extreme or unlawful as long as they do not endanger the society.

Members are expected to look out for items of interest to the society and to aid its members whenever possible.  Members who make a significant contribution to the society will be rewarded for their efforts.  Those who betray a member or the society itself will be punished.

The Hidden Blade keeps no written records, apart from the society tenets, of which only one copy is kept at a secret location. The Grand Master memorizes the important details of the society's history, and passes this information on to any successor or deputy by word of mouth.

Once a year, in a ceremony called the 'Phoenix Rite' the Grand Master of the Blade may be challenged by a member for the leadership. This challenge is a fight with a dagger of the participant's choice. This is to keep the skills of all members at an advanced level and to ensure that the Grand Master is the most skillful Assassin in Bereny. After any challenge (if there is one), the Grand Master burns the old copy of the society tenets, and uses his own blood to write an oath to protect and lead the society, and also to write out a new copy of the society's tenets.
