WALKS AROUND HEYSHAM

Half Moon Bay
From the hill overlooking Half Moon Bay we descend past the car park (alternative starting point) and cross the golf course to enter the National Trust owned cliff path on Heysham Head.
Entrance to Heysham Head, National Trust
The National Trust took over the stewardship of Heysham Head and the Barrows in 1996 and negotiated for and have built the cliff top path which gives access to the Barrows.
Cliff path on Heysham Head
The path is still new and will need a few years to become naturalized but offers exceptional views over Morecambe Bay. Again this provides a good vantage point for the bird watcher.
Cliff path bifurcation on Heysham Head
Proceeding along the path we come to a split in the path, the lower path will bring you to the lower section of the Barrows, the higher path to a middle height, both paths enter the Barrows through gaps in the wall.
Entrance to the Barrows, National Trust
The paths enable us to explore the Barrows and the woods above and both are popular with the people of Heysham.
St. Patrick's Chapel from the Barrows

As we move northwards we finally reach the remains of St. Patrick's Chapel at the edge of the old wall that used to partition Heysham Head from the public.
