WELCOME…to the website of Hobo Chang from somewhere
in North Essex. Raw, smoky
vocals, driving beats laid over lush layers of sound – this compelling noise has
threads of ska, dub-reggae, jazz and blues, all of which have inspired the
band over the years, yet their sound subtly defies categorisation. Hobo Chang are:
Fiona - vocals, Nick - guitar, Phil – keys & mysterious sounds, Tallulah
– Bass, Dave – drums. Between them their influences include Captain
Beefheart, King Tubby, Lee Perry, James Brown, John Coltrane, and Billie
Holliday to name a few. Among their fans is the ‘Punk Poet’ and performer
John Cooper Clarke, who at a recent gig pronounced, “They’re f*****g great,
them!”
Hobo Chang have
played to diverse crowds at the Mersea Scooter Rally, Brightlingsea Music
Festival, The Wivenhoe’s May Fair, Colchester Art Centre, Ipswich Music
Festival, Halesworth Music Festival and supported legendary punk rockers The
