Quantum Leaping's Rating : *****

Sam wakes up in 1956 as Tom Stratton in bed with his pregnant wife. Sam realises that he is not Tom even though everyone around him thinks he is Tom. When Sam is taking a shower he looks in the mirror and see someone else's reflection looking back at him. He does not know what is happening. Sam soon learns that he is a test pilot and he has to test fly the X-2 plane and break Mach-3. Only problem is Sam knows he can't fly.

Out of the blue a man named Al turns up and calls him by his real name. Sam asks him how he knows this, but Al doesn't tell him. Al is hurt that Sam doesn't recognise him and that Gooshie was right. Later on Al tells Sam that he was involved in a time travel experiment that went a little ca-ca.

Al says there is a chance for Sam to get home, because in the original history Tom Stratton died test flying the X-2 and if Sam succeeds, he might get home. Sam manages to test fly the X-2 safely with the help of Al and then goes on to save the life of Tom's wife Peg who goes into labour early.

Sam leaps out of Tom Stratton and lands in 1968 in the body of Tim Box and baseball player. Here Al tells Sam a little more about Project Quantum Leap and that he is the brainchild of the experience. Sam also makes a heart wrenching telephone call to his father who is still alive in this time period. Sam then decides that Quantum Leaping could have its up sides.
