Sam leaps into the body of Joey De Nardo, a two-bit lounge singer. Joey was a witness to a murder three years previous and now living under the witness protection order as Chuck Danner until the cast gets to court. Joey's ex-girlfriend, Lorraine, turns up looking for Joey, just as Joey's car is bombed.

Al arrives and tells Sam that he is here to prevent the murder of Lorraine the following day. No matter what Sam does to avoid the murder, fate has tricks up her own sleeve, and the murder time and location is changed. What is going on? Also Sam has to try and reunite Joey and Lorraine’s old duet lounge act, as if Lorraine survives neither of their futures with amount to much without each other.
