Quantum Leaping's Rating : *****

After the leap, Al is along with Sam in the new time period. Al takes a step forward to walk through the cannon in the park, but for some reason he cannot. Al has leaped! Sam then looks shocked and decides to walk through the cannon; he does! Al is now the leaper and Sam is the observer. Sam is home. All Sam has to do now is gain control of the handlink and unlock the Imaging Chamber door. Unfortunately for Sam, he cannot get the handlink as the handlink leaped with Al and is obsolete in 1945. Sam tries to get the door handle of the Imaging Chamber, but Al informs that because the electricity surge, due to the lighting in Shock Theater, Ziggy automatically locks the door for a cell half-life, that is roughly 500 years! Sam is stuck in the Imaging Chamber.

In this leap, Al is suffering from Swiss Cheesed memory, something of which Sam is taking great joy in. Because Al and Sam simo-leaped, they each are experiencing some of each other's characteristics. Al is taking things a little serious and doesn't look at women the same way. On the other hand, Sam is having a laugh and comments typical "Al" comments about women he meets.

Al soon learns that he has leaped into the body of Captain Tom Jarret, a returning war hero who was a POW. In many ways Tom's life mirrors the life of Al's. When Tom returns home, he learns that his fiancées thought that he died in the line of duty and is planning on marrying another man, Clifford White. Al is determined not to let this happen, as he doesn't want another man to go through the same pain as he did with Beth.

Sam finally figures out a way to get out of the Imaging Chamber. He put a fail-safe, "backdoor" key, so that the Imaging Chamber door could be opened from the outside, no matter what. The way Sam was to let people know that he was trapped in there was to send Gooshie. He would post the letter to the Beckett Family's solicitor with $100 with instructions to deliver the letter to Project Quantum Leap at a certain time and date. As soon as Sam posts the letter, the Imaging Chamber door opens. Just as Sam is about to head home, an important memory comes back to him. A memory Al was hoping he wouldn't get married. He was married to Donna. Sam rushs through the door, back to 1999.

For the first time, we the viewers, get to see Project Quantum Leap. Sam is reunited with his wife Donna again and all the PQL team. Sam is delighted to be home again and has many a deep talks with the hybrid computer, Ziggy. Ziggy is unable to determine what Al has leaped into the body of Captain Tom Jarret for. All data on Ziggy's memory banks only contains details information within the lifetime of Sam. Now that Al is the leaper, he can leap outside the lifetime of Sam, which he has. Sam gets Gooshie and team start to get information inputted into Ziggy to find out what Al is there to do.

Later Ziggy discovers that Al is there to prevent "Tom" and Suzanne from jumping to their death off a cliff. Even with Al as Tom, Tom still dies. Can Sam get back to Al in time to prevent his and Suzanne's deaths?
