The End Game, an RPG/Strategy Science Fiction Adventure

The Scenario

Miranax is an ancient galaxy, one in which interstellar civilisations have risen and then destroyed themselves in bitter inter-racial wars many times. No one knows how many times the galaxy has witnessed this apocalyptic cycle but the scientists of the latest crop of fledgling nations have discovered that the present cycle will be the last. The dynamics of the galaxy have become unstable, the central black hole is consuming matter at an ever more ravenous rate and one day soon the whole galaxy will collapse into it. That day may a long way off but the black hole is generating a huge wave of deadly gamma radiation which will wipe out all life long before the galaxy is consumed. The only hope for races of Miranmax is to escape to a nearby galaxy but the new fledgling nations are barely capable of interstellar flight let alone an intergalactic exodus. Worse still many psycho-historians predict that the rate of scientific progress using pure research alone will be far too slow to develop any means of escape. The only hope is that clues may be found in the ruins of previous cultures which can boost the rate of progress.

This scenario will essentially be a massive treasure hunt rather than a conquer the galaxy style game. The game will feature a hidden technology development tree with more than one possible technical solution and several promising branches which will in fact be dead ends.

Initially all players are citzens of the "Rogol Confederation". Each will command advanced prototype scoutship which is much faster than other vessels built by your civilisation. Using this vessel you are to make contact with other races and search for a solution to your desperate problem.

The Rogol Confederation is a small federation ruled by powerful industrial guilds. Your nearest neighbours, the Ikrell Hegenomy and the Theocracy of Gashaal are both very warlike and unlikely to want to assist you in your endeavours. All of the local civilisations have achieved "1st Generation" interstellar technology, i.e. most of your ships travel at just Warp Factor 1. The player's scout ships are the first "2nd Generation" technology ship built by their nation.

As the game progresses the player's can choose to co-operate or compete with the other alien races. The game will be a mix of role playing game and strategy game elements. Players will have to establish base camps on alien worlds to allow rare minerals to be mined and to research alien ruins & technology.
