  • Host: Peter
  • Scale: 15mm
  • Rules: An adaptation of Fire & Fury

Silly Fuggers

Silly Fuggers (Conquistadors)

  • Host: Paul
  • Scale: 25mm
  • Synopsis: Spain's exploration and conquest of the New World in the 15th and 16th centuries was bankrolled by one of the large European banking families, the Fuggers. As part of the repayment schedule the banking house was granted the Governorship of Venezuela. The New World was rife with rumours of great riches owned by the inland tribes not the least of which was the story of El Dorado. This was supposed to be a man-high solid gold statue. The Fuggers desired a share of the riches and several expeditions were mounted to explore the hinterland. Many young Germans as well as veteran conquistadors signed up for the trips including one of the younger sons of the Fugger family. Despite or because of the religious paradoxes each expedition would have a spiritual adviser and all of the native bearers would be converted Christians. New bearers would become available en route as long as they survived the process of christianisation.

The Black Flags

The Black Flags or Have You Met Ma Yung

  • Hosts: David and Alan
  • Scale: 25mm
  • Synopsis: During the French imperial campaign of 1884 - 85 in Tonkin Indochina their most persistant enemy were the Black Flags. Organised by Liu Yung-Fu these semi-brigand Chinese troops with Yunnanese regulars dominated the upper reaches of the Red River.

As the garrison at Tuyen Quang your orders are to form a front line barrier against the advance of the Black Flags. The Chinese see Tuyen Quang as a vulnerable target where they might inflict an overwhelming defeat on the French.

British Bocage

  • Host: Edward
  • Scale: 20mm
  • Synopsis: Your Infantry Division is in the front line in Normandy in June 1944. Montgomery’s latest breakout battle is to take place in your sector. The 7th Armoured Division is to carry out the assault but first the foot sloggers have got to capture and secure the start line for the attack. This is the Caen-Bayeux road which runs across the front several hundred metres from the British front-line positions. Your Battalion is to take part in this by capturing the ruined village of Le Benoit and clearing paths through any minefields for the follow up forces. The Battalion has only three companies in line because the fourth has been broken to put the others at full strength. The attack is to be two companies up and one back in reserve. Your Company forms the right flank of the attack. You have a troop of Shermans and some new fangled “Funnies” under command as well as various other supporting arms. You have 3 hours to complete the operation before the tanks of the Armoured Division arrive. Good Luck.

The Guns of Nanking

The Guns of Nanking

  • Host: Peter
  • Scale: 28mm
  • Synopsis: Can a small contingent of US sailors destroy the infamous warlord Dim Sum's powerful artillery in order to allow the USS San Miguel to safely land a larger force that, with luck, will finally put an end to the warlord's ambitions of domination? Think "The Guns of Navarone" mixed with "The Sand Pebbles" and just a little bit of "Fu Manchu". Only the roughest and toughest of two fisted all American heroes need apply.

The Final Battle

The Final Battle

  • Host: Paul
  • Scale: 28mm
  • Synopsis: An authentic re-fight of a legendary battle. Many places and cultures claim the legend of Arthur as their own but of course he was a native of Jersey. The final climactic battle of legend was at Mount Badon. (It was actually at Mount Bingham in Jersey). Here Arthur fell at the hands of Mordred who was supported by a large saxon army. (one theory that the army came from Guernsey and featured war donkeys has now been largely discredited.). Arthur's forces avenged his death before sending him off to the Isle of Avalon. (now modern day Green Island). Legend has it that Arthur and his knights sleep beneath the hill awaiting the call to save the land in its hour of greatest need. In the 1970's the Jersey authorities funded a large dig to see if there was any truth to the legend and to see if it could be exploited for the Island's tourist industry. Nothing was found but the excavation is now used as a handy tunnel link between the East and West sides of the island.

Fyre and Sworde

Fyre & Sworde - The Border Reivers

  • Host: Alan
  • Scale: 28mm
  • Rules: Fyre & Sworde
  • Synopsis: The notorious Auld Jock o' the Burn has returned to the Marches with fyre and sworde. Many have been spoyled and after a hue and cry Robert Charlton, the Deputy Warden, has mounted a hot trod to catch Auld Jock with the red hand. The Trod has crossed the Border and having declared their cause and sought witness they have tracked Auld Jock to Nebless Will's bastle. Will justice be done or will this simply be a chance for old scores to be settled?

Punishing the Pathans

Punishing the Pathans

  • Host: Edward
  • Scale: 15mm
  • Rules: Science versus Pluck
  • Synopsis: During the 1880s the British in India tried to keep the Pathans in Afghanistan under control by launching punishment raids against any tribes that caused trouble from across the border. This usually meant that a column was quickly put together of whatever troops were available, including if possible a few guns, which then marched swiftly into Afghanistan destroyed the tribal village and returned before the Afghans could put together a force capable of opposition. The players play the part of the officers commanding one of these punishment raids.

Landing on the Isle Royale

Landing on the Isle Royale, 8th June 1758

  • Host: Alan
  • Scale: 15mm
  • Rules: Grenadier
  • Synopsis: Capturing the Louisbourg is critical to the British campaign. The fortress is weakest from it's landward side and so a landing in Gabarus Bay, a short distance down the coast, has been decided upon:
  • "...the troops intended to land were in the boats by two o'clock in the morning... the Light Infantry and the Highlanders were to attempt to land in the cover at the bottom of the Bay under Brigadier Wolfe's command, this was to be the real attack, General Whitmore with a number of troops made a show of landing towards White Point to amuse the enemy... General Lawrence did the same between General Whitmore's body and General Wolfe's... had orders to move towards the left as soon as Mr. Wolfe's Division had got a footing on shore in order to support and make good his landing...about half an hour after 4 the signal was made to land, the Light Infantry, the Grenadiers and the Highlanders pulled briskly in for the shore ...but they were receiv'd with so terrible a fire of cannon...and musketry from above a thousand men, that it was impossible for the sailors...to towe the boats on shore, where indeed an equal danger seem'd to await the troops...the fate of the Expedition seem'd to depend upon the moment and the most sanguine almost despair'd of setting foot on shore, when fortune or velour directed some of the Light Infantry to push on shore..."

Meat the Ancestors
