The South Korea-US Combined Forces Command on March 7 announced a plan to stage the exercises codenamed “Reception, Staging, Onward-movement and integration (RSOI)” and “Foal Eagle” in south Korea from March 25 to 31.

The RSOI is aimed at further completion of rapid movement and deployment of the US overseas-based forces into south Korea, and the US supporting mechanism for the south Korean army in contingency, while the “Foal Eagle” drill is a typical field mobile maneuver for  invasion on north Korea including landing, river-crossing and striking the depth.

It is reported that US imperialist aggressive forces of 29,000 troops including 6,000 reinforcements from the mainland and Hawaii and the US troops stationed in south Korea, the task force of super-large nuclear-powered carrier “Ronald Reagan” and “F-117” Stealth fighter bombers and the south Korean armed forces will be involved in them.

The staging of such large-scale war drills against north Korea by the US imperialists and the south Korean authorities despite the repeated condemnation and opposition of the entire Korean people and the world peace-loving people is an extremely dangerous military provocation that would chill the current dialogue atmosphere, do harm to the inter-Korean relations and drive the situation of the Korean Peninsula to a brink of war.

It glaringly reveals that the “dialogue” and “improvement of relations”, much touted by the US and south Korea authorities, are little short of sophism to deceive the public opinion at home and abroad and that they are pursuing only the confrontation and war.

Now that the Korean people and the world peace-loving people are giving their support and attention to the successful outcome of the six-party talks and the North-South ministerial talks, the madcap project of the US and south Korean authorities to launch the provocative war exercises is an uncouth act leveling the gun at their dialogue partner and an anachronistic behavior turning back the mood of reconciliation and improving relations to the hostile ones.

Now the AINDF and different segments of the south Korean people are vigorously conducting the anti-US anti-war struggle, vehemently denouncing the war drills as anti-North anti-peace acts revealing the unchanged US moves to stifle the DPRK at the time that the dialogue and negotiations for terminating the face-off and war crisis  and ensuring peace on the Korean Peninsula are underway.

We strongly demand that if the US sincerely wants a détente, peace and improved relations it stops at once the aggressive-natured military exercises and withdraw all its aggression troops and killing tools from south Korea without delay.

If the south Korean authorities actually seek the improvement of the inter-Korean relations and the peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula, they, too, should halt the joint military drills with outside forces forthwith.

We, availing of this opportunity, express our expectation and belief that your friendly organizations and parties will render firm and full support and solidarity to our nation’s struggle for independence and reunification against the US, aimed at frustrating the new US nuclear war moves against north Korea, putting an end to the US colonial rule over south Korea and safeguarding peace and security of the Korean Peninsula.
