The Irish Model Aero Club started with five model aviation enthusiasts at Old Court Road, Tallaght in 1980.  Later renamed the Dublin Kestrel Model Flying Club after a pair of Kestrels nesting locally, the club grew in size, and began training newcomers. After some years, housing estates were built up and what was once countryside gradually disappeared. The club moved to a field near Brittas, Co Dublin.
This site was good to the club,  membership increased.  The club acquired a container, which became the clubhouse in the airfield, providing shelter from wind, sudden showers and a nice place to have a cup of tea and a chat.  Club activities continued here until 2004, which saw many club fun-fly events and summer BBQs.

Experienced model  fliers provide flying lessons free to new Kestrel members.

The Kestrel club now has a North-Easterly facing site, near Manor-Kilbride. This means we do not have to worry about flying with the sun in our eyes.  We benefit from having no close neighbours, so flying times are not restricted.

Ultimately the club had to move to a bigger airfield.  In 2005 club flying moved to the new flying site where it continues today.    Flying is generally at the weekends, some flying also takes place in the midweek evenings during the summer months.
The Kestrel Club website was written by and sponsored by Green Hobby and Model, greenhobbymodel, www.greenhobbymodel.com the model airplane hobby shop in Dublin, Ireland for model planes, cars, boats, trucks, buggies, engines, nitro glow fuel,  robots, balsa wood, fibreglass, carbon fibre, kevlar and more
