Lemony Snicket is the
narrator in Daniel Handler's hugely popular series of Snicket
books. Lemony tells the story of Sunny, Klaus, and Violet, three orphans
who are taken in by Count Olaf, a distant family relative trying to scam
the kids out of an inheritance. Barry Sonnenfeld was to direct the first
big-screen Snicket film, which will no doubt become a franchise
in the vein of Harry Potter. Director

"We wanted someone who would
define a visual style with a sense of black comedy, and Barry [Sonnenfeld]
does that so well," Albie Hecht, president of Nickelodeon Film and
Television, told Variety. Hecht also said that Snicket is the
company's most ambitious franchise foray. (Variety)
Jim Carrey,
who is in negotiations to star in Lemony Snicket, Paramount's much vaunted
potential challenger to the Harry Potter franchise. Barry "Men in Black II"
Sonnenfeld will direct the story, which is based on the Daniel Handler books
and would feature Carrey as a mysterious count who tries to steal an
